...when the Blizzard of '78 hit?

What wikipedia has to say about The Blizzard of '78Me, I was in the 8th grade. I was in school when it started snowing. They didn't release us early. I remember that the bus ride home was quite the adventure and it took well over an hour ( Read more... )

Oooo! I love these pics! Now I feel an urge to go dig out my own pics from the blizzard that hit Chicago in January '79. I was four and a half and it was my first winter, as we'd just moved from Santa Barbara, and I can still remember the MASSIVE plow mounds.

The big storms have a way of sticking with you.

Find your pics! You can celebrate the 39 anniversary of the storm!

In 78 I was -4...in fact, I don't think my parents had even met yet!

I remember the Blizzard of 96! We got something like 26 inches in 24 hours... All told there was just shy of 5 feet in 5 days.... in a place that doesn't get snow! Here's a vid. keep in mind that most of these pics are of Vancouver and Victoria (me!) got twice the amount that they did. Sorry I don't have any pics of my own.

That much snow in one storm is very rare for us. A normal big storm may bring about a foot.

I think I like your weather better.

Where was I? I was in Germany in the Army at the time, but that winter was one of the few times it snowed where I was in Mannheim. I remember my family in Missouri telling me about it, though, they only got about 2 ft. of snow. Cool pictures. Thanks for sharing them.

Funny, I always think of Germany as a place that would get lots of snow in the winter.

Where I was there were mountains that kept most of the snow away. Also, in the whole two-and-a-half years I was there, there were only two thunderstorms. I thought that was strange.

OMG! So much snow! O.K., so I don't feel so bad now about how much it's snowing here, at least it's not all at once, eh?

I love love love the video. *throws up hands* hilarious!

The all at once part was the killer.

We were suprised he made it as far down the street as he did.
