This is lovely, lovely, lovely!

Others (including me) have written or are writing Boromir!Lives/Theodred!Lives AU's, each of them unique and precious, which is part of the wonder and delight of fandom writing. What you've done here is so simple, but makes such perfect sense, and is eminently feasible in the way that makes me go *headsmack* "Of course!" All done, of course, with the subtlety and grace that are hallmarks of your writing. Thus when Théodred son of Théoden departed for Rohan the following morning he left behind the handsome chestnut stallion and memories infinitely more precious.
This is just so spare and elegant, leaving us to happily ponder the substance and form of those memories. ‘May it guard you as I cannot.’...
‘May it remain where I cannot.’
This is so perfectly in character for both of them, to exchange tangible souvenirs to act as emotional talismans for each other, little suspecting....Théodred raised trembling fingers to the secret that had saved his life ( ... )

*flails all over the room*

Yet what pleased Boromir most was the tall, golden-haired young man who led the Rohirrim
Well, yes, and who could blame him? :)

Oh, I love love LOVE The Exchange, each sending a piece of themselves with the other for protection & support. It's quietly emotional, yet shows quite clearly how strongly they're attached to one another. I've always loved that about your stuff - how you show so much emotion lying beneath the surface, without any hint of mauldin-ness, if that is indeed a word.

And OMG YAY, that those gifts of sentiment turn out to be the very things that prevent tragedy on both sides, providing the giver's protection, although he's miles and leagues away. Mmmmmm, lovely. Why do I suspect that Theodred never had that dent completely beaten out of the collar?

But there would be years, and each knew he would gladly pay the same terrible cost again....There they retraced old scars, discovered new ones, and began to heal those that were unseen.Oh oh oh oh, such a wonderfully wonderful image, the two ( ... )

That should bloody well have happened indeed! I sometimes even forget that these two never actually met (canon? which canon?), because the fanon version of this pairing that writers like you present has engraved itself so vividly in my mind. This is another excellent story, but I like the scar metaphor of its last sentence best. It seems so very fitting for two Tolkienian heroes.

Hello again. I just wanted to try and touch base to see if I can get your approval to have the following part of the final ballot for the Men of Middle Earth Awards:

"Souvenir" - Classic General FPS Ficlets - Tolkien

Voting is set to begin on Wednesday, September 17, and run through October 31, so I'm hoping to get in touch with all the authors by this Friday (September 12) so I can get all the coding finished in time.

If you'd rather not be included, that's no problem at all. Just let me know and I'll make sure your work isn't on the ballot. I just want to make sure that I've done everything possible to get in touch with you before finalizing the post for the final vote.

Thanks for your time. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Candice (FoxRafer on LJ)
