Well, yes, and who could blame him? :)

Oh, I love love LOVE The Exchange, each sending a piece of themselves with the other for protection & support. It's quietly emotional, yet shows quite clearly how strongly they're attached to one another. I've always loved that about your stuff - how you show so much emotion lying beneath the surface, without any hint of mauldin-ness, if that is indeed a word.

And OMG YAY, that those gifts of sentiment turn out to be the very things that prevent tragedy on both sides, providing the giver's protection, although he's miles and leagues away. Mmmmmm, lovely. Why do I suspect that Theodred never had that dent completely beaten out of the collar?

But there would be years, and each knew he would gladly pay the same terrible cost again....There they retraced old scars, discovered new ones, and began to heal those that were unseen.
Oh oh oh oh, such a wonderfully wonderful image, the two of them meeting after all their labours are (mostly) complete, exchanging tales of how they both narrowly escaped a violent end, then coming together in their own celebration/reaffirmation of emotion. Utterly fantastic.
