In Praise of Friends -- Verlyn Flieger

The Mythopoeic Society has given me a lot of my friends.  And I am always thankful for that.  The atmosphere of Mythcon itself makes for very comfortable discussions about books, about the Inklings and other fantasy works.  Because everyone takes the ideas seriously, no one really cares what someone's "day-job" is, if they can hold their own in the ( Read more... )

I think my own friendship with Verlyn dates to when we sat opposite each other at the banquet of the Tolkien Centenary Conference at Keble College. We had such a lively discussion we almost knocked over the lamp between us on the table, and made jokes about "splintered light" (the title of her first book).
