Oh dear
So it's Friday and, of course, I want it to be home time already.
Moreover, I have just discovered something called "LibraryThing," which could be very bad indeed. I've been toying (on & off) with the idea of putting together some sort of book database for our home collection and now, it seems, I don't have to.

It's taken a while, but I have finished reading "The Rise and Fall of the American Whig Party: Jacksonian Politics and the Onset of the Civil War" and I have a few points for posterity.

Alito Hearings
If Hatch has to spend this much time blurring Spector's line of questioning, the Whitehouse should really start worrying about whether a Senate Chairman is going to find some balls at their expence.
My guess is that, if this nomination fails, it will be because it gets caught up in concerns over executive power. -

Word of the Day
Without doubt, the Coolest Word of the Day award goes to Alex Harrowell over at The Yorkshire Ranter for "monopsonist" - which turns out to be the opposite of a monopolist. Which is to say, the sole seller of something is a monopolist, but the sole buyer of a something is a monopsonist.

New Year Resolution
This strikes me as a very promising way to begin the new year. Yet another reminder (albeit a more positive one) to watch Hotel Rwanda at some point.
