Welcome back (a week late, because I was dumb) to "Let's Play Suikoden Tierkreis!" with Lady Nighteyes. Last time, ~politics~ happened, and also I named our castle after spending a while rooting around on Wikipedia. This time, a little story and a lot of recruiting.

I'm sure that mysterious boy from the Gateway and the people he said used to occupy your castle will never, ever be important, so let's all just forget it. Video game characters!

...I feel uncomfortable about the dismissiveness with which the characters and game itself treat Anya. She seems like an okay person, and if anything one of the least irritating characters. It's an RPG, I can't complain about characters talking a lot. I liked Golden Sun.

Brilliant exploitation of the Selen recruitment; that clearly isn't meant to be done yet, and I'm impressed that you could. Well, one of my main interests in this playthrough is seeing it done competently.

It bothers me too how Anya gets treated- I'm pretty sure from the way the game refers to her, the intent was for her to come across as a bit of a flighty, gossipy chatterbox, but she ended up sounding smarter and more reasonable than they meant her to. I think part of the problem is that the stuff she talks about is all relevant to the story, so she seems concerned with the same things as everyone else but unable to do anything about them; they could have gotten a little closer to what they were shooting for if she was talking about specific people, especially if it wasn't anyone you knew or cared about.

Believe me, it's a hell of a lot easier with an emulator. Save states are a godsend.

I've always had the feeling the silver-haired guy in blue armor was Sieg's father.

He and his army failed in defeating the One King, and their world got destroyed; they shoved Sieg in through the Gateway into this world before it happened, and then the remnants of the old world merged with the current one. That's also the reason for why Sieg can't go to other worlds; since you have to go through the same Gateway you originally used, Sieg can't use any of the other Gateways... in fact, he can't use any of them since his original one was wiped out along with his old world.

So the silver-haired guy was truly selfless... he suspected they could end up failing, and decided to save at least one person - his own son - by taking him to another world. Then the fortress they used was destroyed by the One King, and that's why it looks so rundown when Atrie comes back to check it out.
