The pain of losing is always worse than the joy of winning. That's the main motivator for people at the top levels of anything.

Exactly. Your first sentence absolutely nails it.

I disagree. The joy of winning the Nationals would be much more memorable than a lousy finish.

I know what you're saying, but I'm not sure that's an apples-to-apples comparison. If you win a Nationals, you're basically etched onto the Scrabble landscape forever. It's not the same as winning most other events.

Our game wasn't exactly a bagging. If I had played tranced I probably would have won.

Whenever I have a terrible tournament (like this one), I always tell myself that I'm going to start studying from scratch. That never really worked out so well...

Do you play in a club at all? Playing in club 56 often helps take the pressure off. I won the first 10 club games I ever played before finally losing one on a recount. On the other hand, I went 2-7 at club on Sunday, but I wasn't really that upset about it.

Or, if that doesn't work, you can always use the foolproof technique of magical coffee before every game. :)

i have a two-player club in which i don't win many games. i go down to lex once in awhile. i was a better player when i had easier access to a club, just because i got to play more and play different people.

Not having access to regular live play has cost me games. You're fortunate to have it.

PULAO#.

TWL games give me a mild headache now. It actually used to be worse! My level of confusion is kinda# decreasing now that I solidify the goodpods. But I still look at too many of my friends' games for my own good. I should probably be looking at Causeway and King's Cup more so I can learn. Yeah, probably...

I don't know GUARDANT -- is it like the ant that they send out on patrol to keep the queen safe?

something that frightens an ox! (GUAR DANT#)
