  • nothing like getting bagged by richard to start a new day. too aggressive at the start, and then draw Q as my sole power tile. i can't read my writing - it's never a good sign when i can't read my writing.

The pain of losing is always worse than the joy of winning. That's the main motivator for people at the top levels of anything.

I disagree. The joy of winning the Nationals would be much more memorable than a lousy finish.

I know what you're saying, but I'm not sure that's an apples-to-apples comparison. If you win a Nationals, you're basically etched onto the Scrabble landscape forever. It's not the same as winning most other events.

Maybe, but I've gotten to the point where I've gotten indifferent at how I fare in non-National events. Sure, winning them is nice, but if things don't go well, I just shrug it off and realize that the next one like that is only a month or so away.
