Everybody knows you shouldn't carry more than 3 grams if there's a possibility of being searched. This law is to get rid of street dealers, who are getting a little too bold about dealing in front of cops.
Oh, they definitely care about gender! Cops are much harder on guys, from what I've seen. Oddly coloured hair is pretty mainstream. I've never been arrested or searched either - partly because I don't look that odd either (enough for them to bug me, but it never escalates) and partly because I never smoke in public (or private, for that matter.. I don't smoke weed at all).
