Was momentarily pleased with myself for getting a tremendous amount done on my Danny-visits-Dartmouth fic, and then realized I took a hideous wrong turn barely a fourth of the way in. Meaning pretty much a total rewrite, as it took the fic completely in the wrong direction ( Read more... )

But! Writing! Good by definition. No?

Rewriting is boring, especially when it means you have to OMG! kill your babies and cut bits out (but you never know, they might be salvageable for something else down the line). But it's part of the job, I suppose.

Not that I would know, since I can't remember when I last wrote anything but a drabble. Other than the snippet I did on Saturday that was SO BAD I had to expunge it from LJ.

Writing is always of the good, and I do quite like some of the bits I have written - - they just don't belong in THIS fic, but in a happier fic with a less woobie Danny. So yay for maybe recycling into other fics, but still a bit sad because I was sooooo close to finishing.

*fails at plotting*

I think the cause of your writer's block is that you have never written the sequel to Due South. The spirit of the unwritten fic is restless, because it's ready to cross over into the corporeal world, and is disturbing your muse.

You have to admit it's possible.

Oh god, you scared me! I thought you meant I had to write in the fandom I will not mention because my sodding FL will not shut up about it and it drives me crazy. I retitled that fic, it's called The Beautiful South now. But I've done lots of writing since then, including two follow-ups to it, so I don't think your theory can be entirely correct.

I have never been any good at plotting. Look at my overall oeuvre (in theory, I mean. You don't have to go and read it all), and you will find not a single plot in evidence. Or maybe just one. And that's in the A/U.

Fails. Period!

damn, I was just going to edit my post, because I quite realize there are sequels to DS/BS, but I mean the sequel to the sequels. The fourth bit. er, whatever.

heh, the fandom that dare not speak its name. at least not in your presence.

(and I've already read it all. perhaps I need to read it all again, in order, for inspiration?)
