Sport's Night Drabble: Father's Day
The first time was Father’s Day.
Casey handed Danny the card, watched him read the shaky cursive, hating the way unexpected kindness always made him look uncertain.
"His teacher said it was okay to make extra cards for anyone they loved who acted like a dad to them."
Danny smiled, and if Casey thought his mouth twisting with emotion was sweet, wouldn’t anyone?
The warm glow he felt was a reasonable response to the sparkle in Dan’s eyes.
The jackhammering of his heart when Danny touched him was harder to explain.
Casey decided to ignore it.
It didn’t mean anything.
