Why Painting Sucks

Dec 10, 2007 19:51

Because I don't have enough angst in my life, I've set up a low-budget version of my art studio again in the basement where it can do no harm.

Art has always - ALWAYS - frustrated me, but every once in a while I do something that I think is cool. Fortunately, every time I back away from it, I step to it a little better. Unfortunately, I'm not even ( Read more... )

poetry, criticism, painting

Well, you ARE human, eh?

I hear you. I wanted to be able to write poems the way I feel them. I can't.

Everyone must have SOMETHING they can't do. Otherwise, you're too much and people will hate you.

Besides, I'm betting you are your own worst critic.

There's plenty I can't do! None of the fine arts should be one of them.

Fair enough. I hear that you are very upset over this.

Strikes me that the painting got you the poem. That's gotta be worth something.

It's like when I sit down with the guitar. I'm a competent guitarist but would love to be more than that -- probably not gonna happen; don't have the time I'd like to woodshed and get really, really good -- but the playing makes me happy and I get thinking about poems and such while I'm fiddling with lame songs...

and it's worth it.

I hear you.

I just hate seeing the thing, but not being able to DO the thing.

And another thing... jazzykym December 11 2007, 02:53:33 UTC
Just because I know you can take it, and if you didn't want to hear it, you wouldn't have put your thoughts out on the WWW.

Writing ISN'T as easy as some other art forms. I can dance my ass off. I can choreograph in my head and have it come out looking pretty nice and neat. It comes easy to me. But writing, words, putting my thoughts and feelings down and having them come out sounding like a poem? No! Can't do it!

You have a gift! I know that you appreciate it, but please know that it doesn't come so easily for everyone. Just because we talk doesn't make us all poets. Just because we walk doesn't make us all dancers.

But back to you: I am actually sorry that you are feeling frustrated. Please don't mistake my debating your point for non-support of your frustration.

I don't know how to edit my damn comment, so I came back to fix it.

What I mean is, writing isn't as easy as some other art forms FOR EVERYBODY.

That is all.

FYI, to edit the comment click the pencil icon... I JUST FIGURED THAT OUT LIKE TWO DAYS AGO. Most of the rest of my friends have their page set up with a link that says "edit". Scott's layout set up uses the pencil icon. hope that helps going forward. :-P

To dance you have to be able to move, to have something resembling rhythm, and even that's optional if nightclubs are any indication.

Really: what has ever come out of your mouth that you could not fix to paper?

Oh, I don't know... I seem to recall a rather lovely painting you did of a woman in blue....

...that's still sitting there, waiting for a revamp.
Why? Becuase I lack.
(Though that one could get done. I did nail most of that idea in the pass.)
