Ice and Fire

Finished A Storm of Swords, the third book in George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series, the other day.  If you like fantasy with a pseudo-historical, realistic edge, I highly reocmmend it.  But be warned - you may be left wondering, by the end of the third book, if there will be any living characters by the time it all ends up!

not to mention wondering when the hell the fourth book will come out. it was supposed to be out last summer, but was delayed till this summer, and now they're saying it'll be out this December.

it's a wonderful series, yes. although i must admit, i was rather hoping for romance to blossom between Sansa and the King's Dog.

Well, you never know - he wasn't too far from the Vale; well okay, he was dying but...

Ol' Sandor has become a lot more interesting character than I ever figured he would be, actually. At first it seems he's just a run-of-the-mill evil minion, until you realize that he hates himself. Only one thing keeps him going - he hates his brother even more.

yeah, i've really enjoyed watching his character develop. unfortunately, he's already killed most of the other characters i really liked. that won't stop me from devouring the next book the second it arrives, of course.

but god, so long between books is a drag. i had to re-read the first one before i could read the second. i had to re-read *both* before i could read the third. and now i'm clear enough on the first one, but i'll have to re-read 2 and 3 before i can take on the fourth. (i read fast, but my retention is... well, you know what my memory is like.)

Fortunately I read the first three in fairly rapid succession. I'll wait until I hear the 4th is actually out/on its way to bookstores, then I'll re-read all three. Looking forward to it, actually!!

Can't wait to see what's going on north of that wall...

martin's website gives updates on when and such. his most current post says he's still writing it, but that's been up for a few months. he claims he'll post as soon as he's done.

and i will be re-reading the first three before reading number four. of course if it comes out by december, i better get reading now....
