Deidara had given a faint trail of his chakra a while ago, changed location since giving away the landscape through the network. It was just a precaution, which Sasori would understand without saying. Deidara was trustful at least. He had learned it from the redhead after all, like so many other things. Life in general - crooked as that thought was: learning life from a puppet ( ... )

There certainly was something awkward lingering between them. Sasori didn't quite know what he should do about what had transpired on Kannagara. Should he tell Deidara about that? How would he even go about broaching such a subject? By the way, we became intimate but that was with a different you in a place you've never even heard of so you wouldn't remember it. How should we proceed?...Maybe it would be better just to pretend things were as they were before. Just partners, nothing more, no matter how much it made his stomach knot up to set everything aside and bury it. Of course, hiding something from someone you'd spent almost every waking moment with for eight years wouldn't exactly be an easy task ( ... )

Eight years, already making themselves known. Deidara narrowed his eyes, watching Sasori, studying the way he put down his weight, how he chose to speak and what kind of conversation he was building. Something was wrong, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Something was different, and it nagged at him, taunting him with its presence but not quite showing itself.

But-- But in truth, it went directly onto back burner as he saw what had been hidden under Sasori's cloak.

The shirt, much like Deidara's, revealed all too much to keep Sasori's secrets hidden. Frantic gaze twitched from one point of connection to another, shoulder, elbow, wrist, neck, stomach... Searching the hollow that should have been Sasori's middle, Deidara gave a breathy "Mhmn," and a step closer, invading Sasori's personal space without another thought. This was his Danna, and something-- no, obviously A LOT had happened to him. A lot that was completely in the dark for Deidara ( ... )

Too close.

Sasori's reaction was automatic; his face flushed brilliantly and he twisted his wrist from Deidara's grasp, shoving his partner back to give him a bit of space. It was either that, or let the facade crumble and pull Deidara closer, and he couldn't...he just couldn't.

"Isn't it obvious, you damned idiot?" Sasori snapped, more unsettled by Deidara's recent proximity than his agitation. "I'm human again."

No, this wasn't good at all. At least one of them had to remain calm. He took a breath to steady himself before starting again, keeping his eyes firmly turned away.

"Kannagara. It happened there. The so-called gods in that place liked to toy with us, and as a birthday present they decided to undo my life's work. I'd expected it to be temporary, but I've been trapped like this ever since my arrival here ( ... )

Throwing a sharp punch would have been Deidara's natural reaction to having been shoved and mocked when he was already storming out of his own control. His instincts screamed for it, begged him to soil his own confusion with violence, break legs under every hint and suggestion the situation invoked, shatter their bones until nothing remained. It would have been easy, right? Break and rebuild.

Yeah, if only it would be that simple.

His resolve stuttered at the color upon Sasori's cheeks, it made a hesitant pause at the mention of the humanity of Sasori's current body, and it came to a creaking halt at the obvious signs of Sasori collecting himself.

Deidara was confused. And he let the momentum carry him few steps backward, the cloak hanging loose from one shoulder, staring at his master.

Human again?
Just like that?

"That doesn't make much sense, you know, hmn," he said quietly, wondering if his death had changed something significant. What a performer, a part-time narcissist, wouldn't have wanted his own death to be a ( ... )
