He had struggled with the concept even when it was offered by those he had grown attached to in some way or another, these rituals of friendship he'd never really gotten much chance to experience before his life was turned upside down and torn apart.
It always made him uncomfortable, too--a weird sort of twisting discomfort just under his skin. It wasn't...entirely that he didn't understand the caring part of it, because he did. This place had even given him someone he'd eventually opened his heart too, wanted to protect with every fiber of his being, but...being cared for was still confusing ( ... )
