[Did he know where to find her because: (a) she'd terrified the residents who'd sent him up, or (b) he'd followed the flare of uncontrolled power, or (c) he'd tracked back reports of the fight, or (d) …whatever it was that bound them together made him know she needed… something?

Whatever it was, he knew better than to come up on her suddenly. From the doorway he quietly said her name.]

regardless, shirley remains silent and still for several moments. but then, she finds it in herself to look at him, head raising and eyes opening. she would have abandoned him? she looks strangely shameful and apologetic, for that. ]

[lumenrelegandus]

[He takes her look as permission.

Slipping his wand into his hand, he crosses from the doorway toward her. With every step, in his wake, the room reassembles. Furniture rights itself, broken shards leap back into place, the water turns itself off. By the time he kneels at her side, everything is back in order, except the cut in her leg.

That, he knows (like everything else of course) she can fix herself. He puts his hand over it anyway-not the wand: the empty hand-until it closes.

He asks her nothing at all. Only slowly moves his hand to touch hers.]

[ in return, she only bows her head as a gratitude. for a moment, her fingers twitch as though she will hold his hand, but that passes. softly: ]

Forgive me.

[ and he may not know what she apologizes for, but the fact she verbalizes herself means everything to shirley. ]
