[ Arthur knows next to nothing about all your soap opera, but he watches this anyway, and wishes he hadn't. It's interesting, to see what Byakuya is capable of, and he's certainly curious how Renji came to be in such a bind in the first place, but ah, that all over pain, he knows that well enough and the Broadcast overwhelms him. ]
[ Eventually he realizes it might be just a nightmare and catches his breath, Forge clutched in a white-knuckled fist, and responds. ]
[Arthur is obviously bothered by it, though. Renji wonders for a second if he should just leave it at that, but then he'd be pissed if someone lied to him, so he goes on.]

[...This is. Kind of terrifying, to be honest. It's not as if Kaien isn't aware of what Byakuya is capable of. No, it's not so much that he fears Byakuya's power, as much as it far outmatches his own...
What really frightens him, shakes him nearly to the core is that Byakuya would do this to his own lieutenant. Because he doesn't doubt for one second that this is real, it never is, not when it's like this. And because ultimately, when he thinks of what little he was told about the execution debacle, it's not that much of a surprise, really. If he could carry the order to execute his sister without being crushed by the mere thought of it...then surely, his subordinate was nothing.
Byakuya had a reason, that much he can be sure, but what it is, Kaien is at a loss for.]
Why--
...Why did he...?
[Oddly, Kaien finds himself unable to finish the sentence.]

[Renji probably shouldn't be as calm about everything as he is, considering he nearly died back then. And with the way everyone else is flipping their shit, he kind of feels weird about...not doing the same.]
[Renji shakes his head. It's a compliment, maybe one to make him feel better after remembering that particular incident, but he's not all that great at accepting compliments.]
[ He remembers that day. That is one of the few that he cannot pass off, leave the details in some dark corner of his mind, to be recalled when necessary. That day changed many things, for all of them, he is sure. But this particular scene... ]
How strange. I wonder why it is you recall this.
[ Haven't done anything taichou should kill you for, have you? Well, besides put the moves on his sister. ]

[No smartass remarks, Renji. You've done enough damage by opening your mouth and you really can't afford anymore with Byakuya. Not that you ever could...]
Things've been tense lately. Y'get to feelin' that way and bad memories pop up, whether you want 'em to or not.
[Shrug.]
I still have some scars from that. They're faint, mostly healed, but I must've caught sight of one and then my brain did the rest of the work.

Just give him a second to wake up properly after hearing a message on his Forge.]

Then perhaps that tension is in need of release.
[ Because Byakuya? Does not want to know what it feels like to be struck by his own blade so thoroughly, okay. ]

Easier said than done, but...I agree with ya.
[In short, Taichou, it hurts like a bitch.
A big, bitter bitch.]
