[ It is more than apparent, from the moment the broadcast begins, that the presently streaming video feed is far from intentional. The camera's lens peers skyward, providing ample view of the waning night and the morning lurking just around the corner; the dawn brandishing as a slender knife that cuts brightly across the softening darkness and

Ukitake-taichou?

Abarai-fukutaichou.
[ He holds the Forge in one hand, and there is an object grasped tightly in the other. ]
Again, I apologize for my carelessness.

[ And there is something decisive about those words, an intonation that is almost harsh. ]
Both Hitsugaya-taichou and Hinamori-fukutaichou have gone missing within quick succession of the other. And while I have not yet been able to locate either party, or determine if the timing of the disappearances was merely coincidental...
[ The object is within clear view now, as Ukitake holds it before the Forge: the 5th Division Lieutenant's badge. ]
I stumbled upon this, in the Ruins.

Ukitake-san...?

[ That look. He hates that he's the one to have inspired it. Now, at least, his own expression is soft, recognizable, and quite unlike the steeled demeanor he wore during the night. ]
I'm deeply sorry, to have frightened you.

[If he looks like that, it makes it a little easier to talk.]
What's going on?

[ By night, if need be. ]
Eventually, that search lead me to the Ruins. Anything beyond the outskirts of the city, you see, has dangers lurking within it.
[ A fact which he's neglected to tell her, after all this time. Truly, he hadn't seen the need to. ]

And a night's worth of sleep, though it was well spent.

[ Though he appreciates the sentiment, certainly. ]
I'd rather you stay with Tomoe-san until I return, if possible.

[Kaien...wants to protest. He wants to go in with him, to watch his back in case the mist interferes with his senses or his powers, somehow, but...
Ukitake is among the original four captains, trained by Yamamoto himself. He'll be fine. Kaien reminds himself of that. It's not his place to insist, not anymore.
A sigh.]
All right. Be careful, taichou.
Call me if you run into any trouble. I'll keep my Forge on.

[ Even under present circumstance, Ukitake is aware that something has gone unsaid, that Kaien would have liked to join him in his search. But, after covering so much ground on his own, and making a night out of the endeavor, it is not his intention to linger on in the Mist for much longer.
Far be it from him, to pose an inconvenience, especially when he is not in the best of moods. It is not often, that Ukitake would actively seek solitude, but when such an occurrence does arise... ]
Thank you, Kaien.
[ A nod, before the video cuts. ]

[ More an observation than a question. ]
You should not search alone.

[ And yet... ]
But I am not emotionally compromised, nor am I unaccustomed to conducting searches within the Mist.
Thank you, for your concern.

[ He knows. ]
It is not often, that I am able to be reckless, and if it is in the name of finding those lost within the Mist...
I will embrace it gladly.
