[Voice; and accidental video.]

[The Forge clicks on, and there is fumbling before a very clear, firm female voice rings over it.]

This is Naomi Misora, formerly with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I-my current whereabouts are unknown. If there is anyone from the Japanese Task Force investigating the Kira murders listening on any channel, please acknowledge this message. [ ( Read more... )

[Ah! Now here is a surprise. And from the way a slow smile spreads across Beyond's lips at the sight and sound of her, a pleasant one at that. Now all that remains is text or voice...hide or seek. Well. It's not like he has much to lose, really. Not here. Not anymore.

So Beyond flips on the 'audio' function.]

Misora. Such perfect timing. Really, I should've expected nothing less of you.

[She knows that voice. Oh, yes, she does.]

R-...Ryuzaki?

[It couldn't be. He's in prison. Or, at least, he was...

She takes a deep breath to calm herself.]

Or should I say..."B"?

You may call me either. But it seems that Ryuzaki would be more natural for you.

I did expect to see you again, but not quite so soon. The flow of time must be different here.

[A pause.]

I trust you've been well.

[Shaking a bit, but quelling the tremor in her voice with ruthless control, and turning it a bit frosty.]

You expected to see me again, did you? [A slight scoff, to show her bravado.] Did you expect me to visit you in prison, Beyond?

I have been well, yes. Not that it's any of your concern.

FBI, hm?

Interesting place for one of you to turn up.

Indeed. Who am I speaking to?

If we're not in Japan, can you tell me where we are?

Call me Mello. Everyone else does.

City's called Anatole. Fuck Japan. It's not on Earth.

...I see. I suppose this means I'm not going back there anytime soon.

Where are you originally from, Mello?

Great, more detectives.

Might want to learn to use that thing properly before you go round deducing or whatever it is you people do.

I seem to have gotten the hang of it; thanks for your concern. Not all of us are extremely tech-savvy.

Are more sleuths a bad thing, in this place? If anything I'd think we might be somewhat helpful, to try to find a way out of here.

Well if you got the hang of it, I guess you won't be needing this then. Cheers.

Don't you know what happens when too many detectives get crowded into the same space? It's like a fucking brain circus. Anyway, we have some pretty sharp minds here and nobody's found anything useful yet. You're welcome to keep looking, though.

Sarcasm is obviously lost in text format.

I appreciate the device information. Seriously, I've done some hacking before, but mechanical aptitude is just not my forte.

It's good to know I'm in good company, if this place is as much of a "brain circus" as you say it is.

Can I ask you how long you've been here?

Murders...? That doesn't sound too reassuring, though I can't say that being here is too reassuring either.

[her voice turns a little warmer. another newcomer, it seems.]

Hello. Has anyone explained things to you yet?

[voice] mourning_sky January 5 2010, 18:50:09 UTC
They have, thank you. I've been told this place is called Anatole, and that it's not on Earth, and that there is no going back home from here.

[pauses] Although, I would like to know more. How big is this city? Approximately how many inhabitants? Are there any native...Anatolians?

That about covers the basics, I suppose.

As for how big the city is or how many people live here, I can't say for certain, but it is rather large, both the area and the population.

[a thoughtful hum] But yes, there are native Anatolians here. [a sad sort of amusement in her voice] Most of them aren't too fond of the Scorched.

Oh! And for more information, I always find this post of Mello's useful. He updates it a lot, too! Hang on ----

[some clicking, and then she switches to text and sends Naomi this post.

back to voice now!] I hope that helps.

I just saw his re-write. Thank you for sending it. It's very helpful.

[thoughtfully] I wonder if that means I've been "scorched", as well, just by being here.

Do you notice any changes in yourself since you've come to this place?

Place is called Anatole. You came in through the big damn arch in the center of the city; you're not going back anytime soon. Don't go into the mist.

...and you might want to be careful with that thing--there's a video at the end I doubt you intended to post.

Thank you. Unfortunately I have no idea how to go back and delete the unintentional video portion. I'll try to keep it on voice and text only, from now on though.

To whom am I speaking?

As far as I'm aware, it isn't possible to delete messages over this device. It's called a Forge, by the way.

[There's hesitation before his response, but only for a moment, and far less than there might have been two months ago.] I go by Scar.

Scar. It's good to meet you. My name - [a small pause, before continuing] my name is Shoko Maki.
