I think in some cases, it's a fear of losing one's self. That by "giving in", you lose everything you are and become something far worse.

The thing you despise.

Some of us choose not to abandon our humanity in favor of the surge of power attained. Is it genuinely worth the risks? To give in when the result is something you can never turn back from?

You'd be better off asking a human that.

I think it is often much more complicated than that.

[The British voice sounds just a touch fatigued and irritable.]

And what makes you say that?

In my experience, a human's motivation to resist sin is driven by a number of factors, not just one. It could be all of the above that you mentioned, in addition to a fear of letting someone else down, or even just a personal challenge.

Setting a limit to a person's reasoning is underestimating human complexity.

Everyone here on the network keeps pointing at humanity like it [matters] is all-inclusive.

Occasionally. But not today.

[...being tempted to kill people? Problem. These feelings? Not ...so much of a problem. Yet.]

Are you still unwell or just too warm?

[She briefly considers the addition of a partially undone shirt and a tie to her growing collection of costumes. If it looks this good on--]

Who are you, anyway?

[--him, surely it'll look better on her, right?]

I... you know, honestly I wouldn't call it unwell so much as a bit heated, my dear.

[He straightens a bit in his chair, manages a smile.]

I'm Raphael. And a lovely woman like you would be...?

I do not think it is right to encourage bad behavior.

It may not be right, but it's natural.

Humans must flow with nature, but they should not fall to it.

They're hardly the only ones that do.

Not in the slightest.
