[ Arthur's leaning against a wall outside the Patrol Headquarters - there's noise in the background, same as you'd hear all over Anatole: rumbling and fighting. Sweat cuts tracks through the dirt on his face and plasters his hair to his forehead. He's breathing hard. ]

[ You had better believe he is gonna speech the hell out of this occasion. There ( Read more... )

[Maybe he won't trip if he tells the truth?]

I'm trying to make it to the clinic!

Good. The clinic's been fortified, too, it should be perfectly safe, if you can actually get there.

Don't worry about me, I know a shortcut.

I normally don't like sending you off into battle by yourself. You'd better take damn good care of that armor! [And what's in it.]

It's hardly what I'd call a proper battle. A few monsters here and there, practically my job by now. Don't see what all the fuss is.

[ this flippancy isn't particularly convincing. ]

Let's hope the headquarters can hold out long enough to protect those people.

I'm sure you have more important things to think about right now than architecture.

...Understood.

[Hesitation, and then.] Don't push yourself too hard. Leaders are something we only have in short supply.

I think you'd be surprised by who steps up when necessity calls. But I take your point. I shall try extra hard not to get myself killed.

Call me a creature of habit, but I prefer the tried-and-true in crises like this, rather than someone untried. [That, and if you're leading, she doesn't feel the need to leap in as badly.]

These speeches are getting to be something of a tradition. Which says a lot about the state of affairs in this city, really.

Is there anything that needs to be done as far as helping with the situation goes?

That depends on your capabilities. If you regularly level buildings then you may wish to join the fray, otherwise it would be best to perhaps stay indoors and hand out blankets.

No, I wouldn't be good for leveling a building, but if there's need for help with strategy or research or something in that area, I would be happy to assist.

Strategy, hm? We're going to have to work out how to stop that monstrous slab from spitting hellcats at us or we'll never rid the city of them. Any suggestions on that front would be more than welcome.

Tonks and I are setting up portkeys between the safe houses: the dojo, the clinic, and Patrol Headquarters. So far I'm only telling you and Shirley but whoever you think is appropriate: should someone need to get in a hurry from one to another-

[interruption of activity, background noise and sound]

I'll send you pictures of the objects as soon as they've been activated. Touching the object will transport you to the next location.

[about that conversation they had regarding magic…]

I imagine if things go wrong, being able to send you our wounded could be very useful indeed.

[ pained ] Just don't expect me to use one.

By the way, I believe my manservant, Merlin, is heading your way. I'd appreciate it if you kept an eye on him. He aided a physician for quite some time, he may even prove to be of use.

[a tired but genuine smile] I don't.

[without transition, back to business with a nod] Good. I'm sure he will be. I'll look out for him.
