[VIDEO] Martha's Introduction

May 24, 2010 21:30

Hello? Hello? Mickey? Jack?...Doctor?

[The camera flashes around the room, briefly capturing the familiar décor of an outworlder apartment, from the bed to the walls, and something leaning against the desk, before finally focusing on the face of a young black woman.]

Sorry! Just checking! Ahem, well, anyway… [The woman clears her throat, though her ( Read more... )

Oh, this? AK-47, made in 2009. I like to call her Adeola.

[She is very intrigued by your weapon, Martha.]

I've never seen anything like it. What are it's capabilities?

My name is Riza Hawkeye. Welcome to Anatole, for what it's worth.

You may find this information helpful.

[Martha reads the link to herself. Her voice wavers a little the next time she speaks.]

Endless, huh? This is all just...delightful.

[her voice returns to its usual chipper tone]

Thank you! It always helps to get an instruction manual when you go somewhere strange, I wish someone had written one for me back when I was travelling. [Pause] I see there's a clinic. Do you know anyone named Sakura?

Oh, as for the gun, she's standard issue-- adjustable iron sight, semi-automatic, fires at 710 metres per second (or 2,300 feet a second, if you use those measurements). The cartridge, when it doesn't through and through, can cause hydrostatic shock. Specifically, it explodes heads. It doesn't work on everyone, of course, but the results are spectacular if you can hit a Sontaran weak point.

What the hell are you doing hunting aliens?

And like, what do you mean? The green googly eyed kind?

Well, where I'm from we have a bit of an issue with angry, hungry aliens. Most can be negotiated with, but those that can't... well, that's where me and my husband come in.

You know, now that I think about it, I don't think I've met a green, googly alien. Other than the evolved Dalek, but I don't like to think about him really.

...i am SO SORRY for jennifer's horribleness. oopsiatehim May 25 2010, 05:02:38 UTC
What, are you from a border state or something?

Well, shit. If I met a green, googly alien I'd think about that guy all the time. It'd be like, a cocktail story.

No problem ;) drjonessmith May 25 2010, 05:06:15 UTC
England, actually. I'd get you some pictures if I had access to the Internet, but you'll just have to take my word for it.

The evolved Dalek was not nice. Daleks in general are not nice, but they tend to be more aesthetically pleasing. Although their death lasers can be quite a problem.

Alien hunter? [he sounds perhaps amused, or maybe confused, but in a good-natured way]

That's not something I've hear of before.

Well, I'm freelancing right now, but where I come from its a fairly stable government business. I've worked for UNIT and Torchwood, and I'm sure there are others.

[Distinct pause.]

How was that? [He's skeptical, clearly, but there's curiosity there too. After all, this place is pretty weird.]

[It can't be seen, but there's a pause as she shrugs] Nice guy. Bit of a flirt. I still wish I could have caught his play before it vanished with the witch alien things.

...Aliens? Wow, your world must have been very interesting!

Well, for employment, maybe you should check out either the Clinic, since you're a doctor or the patrol if you're a solider good at handling very strange things.

What doctor are you looking for? Does he have a last name?

Oh, I'm Utena Tenjo by the way. It's nice to meet you, Martha!

Hello Utena! Thanks to Riza I've rung the clinic's owner. I'll be sure to contact the person in charge of the patrol if that doesn't work. [She laughs] I've become very good with the strange, more than I ever expected.

[Pause] The Doctor...is The Doctor. It's what he likes to call himself. I'm not sure if he's got a last name... or a first name. But hey, you'd be surprised how many people would recognize him just from that title! He had quite the cult following among some of the UNIT agents.

Oh, you'll want to talk to Priscilla for the patrol. Here's her number.

Hm, there was someone who called himself just "The Doctor" but I haven't heard or seen from him for a few weeks now. I'm sorry, it seems that he's another who just disappeared. That happens here in Anatole, you just...vanish.

[Doesn't want to be downbeat, or scare the new girl.]

But perhaps it wasn't him! There's lots of doctors out there. And lots of worlds, so maybe it's someone different. Anyway, welcome to Anatole!
