Hello? Hello? Mickey? Jack?...Doctor?
[The camera flashes around the room, briefly capturing the familiar décor of an outworlder apartment, from the bed to the walls, and something leaning against the desk, before finally focusing on the face of a young black woman.]
Sorry! Just checking! Ahem, well, anyway… [The woman clears her throat, though her grasp on the device has clearly improved.] This is Martha Jones, testing the Forge communication device. I’ve been told by the man who gave me this that we…otherworlders, I think the term was…we otherworlders use to talk to each other. So this is me, making my presence known.
[The Forge wiggles slightly as the woman looks to the side. The device tilts, showing her empty hand fumbling for something on the desk.] They say that I’m going to be here for a while. I don’t know if I believe them; I’ve been in worse places than this and everything turned out all right. I just need to wait for him. But until then, I made myself a list of things to do to get settled around here. [The camera shifts back to the woman’s face.] First is accommodations...right, got that for a bit at least. Next is employment. [She flashes a smile.] I’ve got experience in all sorts of jobs. I’ve been a doctor, a maid, shop-girl, soldier… I’ve been freelancing lately, just your average alien hunter. Oh, let me show you! [She moves the camera to aim it at the something leaning against the desk, a large machine gun balancing by the grip. She camera shifts back to the woman’s face.] Some husbands give their wives celery cookers as a wedding present. I guess I’m just especially loved.
Anyway, if anyone’s hearing this I’d love to make contact. Go out for drinks, kill some aliens, I’m up for anything really. Give me a call! Oh. One last thing. [The smile vanishes as Martha presses buttons on the Forge, eventually activating the filter. Her face and voice vanish for everyone, save a select one.]
Doctor? Doctor, can you hear me? This is just in case…just in case you might be out there. Because you always are, you know? [She takes a deep breath.] Doctor, if you can hear me, please come. Please, just get me out of this place. I need to get back to Mickey. I need to go home.
