But she never caught the woman's name so she doesn't know how to address her. So, in lieu of a direct approach, she fixes silver eyes on the dark haired woman and nods when she catches her attention.]
Reply
She returns the nod. Offers a cool smile and inclines her head just a little.]
Yes?
Reply
I believe we've met informally. In battle.
[She makes no attempt to hide her glance toward the other woman's hands, though it is not so pointed as to be rude.]
I am Deneve.
Reply
Yes. The ...vampire. [Tap tap tap on the cup.]
Iolanthe. Or Miss Silk, if you wish. [Or Lust if you don't wish.]
[And she'll offer that hand, very slowly. Let it hover there in the air just to be sure that's where the gaze was directed. It shouldn't surprise her, but it does.]
It's a pleasure to meet you, Deneve.
Reply
[Without hesitation or the remotest hint of fear, she takes the offered hand and clasps it. Firm, but not too strong. She had learned something of this handshake greeting people seem to use.
She also inclines her head, a greeting more in line with her own people.]
Iolanthe.
[A pause. She assesses Lust up close. She doesn't look like a warrior, but Deneve has already seen proof otherwise.]
Do you often find yourself in battles like that one?
Reply
Twice, so far. [At home? Why, absolutely. Though until recently it wasn't truly of her own volition. A truth she was displeased to realize.] Both were unplanned. You, however, look as if it is very much planned.
[gesturing among the partygoers]
No battles here, I hope?
Reply
I was hunting it. I'd never fought a 'vampire' before. It was... interesting.
[She scans the crowd skeptically. She would be able to sense him if he were here. She closes her eyes, face deceptively serene.]
Doubtful. But one can never be absolutely sure.

[She didn't like feeling like she owed Trevor somehow. Then again, she may have felt left out if he hadn't wanted her assistance. OH EMOTIONS WHAT ARE YOU.]
True. But I'd hate for such pleasantries to be interrupted. [She gestures toward the table.] Do you wish to sit, or are your kind ...always on guard?
Reply
[Seriously. Considering where she lives, within easy walking distance of all three Abyssals, she doesn't even let her guard down during the short periods when she sleeps. But she does take the indicated seat and looks calm enough.]
Your fighting style is interesting, too.
[She opens her eyes and locks them on Iolanthe, a curious penetrating silver gaze. Nothing accusatory, nothing demanding in it, just a simple statement to test the waters. This woman is still an unknown quantity Deneve is in the process of measuring.]
Reply
[She's so unused to having to be on guard anymore at all. What is this, even? Mostly, though, she doesn't mind. Should this bother her? She doesn't know. But ...she's suspecting it doesn't.]
Ah.
[She raises a gloved fingertip, her eyes still locked with the Claymore's. She's more amused than anything (although she takes note of the intensity and beauty of the woman's eyes), and very slowly lengthens the tip of a finger by a fraction, and another. Inclines her head a little.]
You mean this?
Reply
Yes, that.
[And though she tries, she still can't sense any yoki from the other woman. By now she is no stranger to the idea that people from other worlds harness power in different ways but the fact that she can't gauge the flow of power from Lust bothers her.]
Is that something you could always do?
Reply
[But she pauses a moment after. The woman in whose image she was made, the mistake she was borne of could not do this. Was there anything left of that person within her at all? Had there ever been? If she was to listen to some people, no. Others said yes. There are days she agrees with both. Her careful facade falls a bit - no longer resembling a courtier's mask.]
That's not entirely true, I don't think.
It's complicated. And I'm sure you have more pressing things than my contemplation of the state of [frown] whatever I am.
Reply
[She makes a small affirmative noise and drops her gaze down into the teacup in front of her before letting her eyelids fall closed again. Part of the dance, part of the calculations. Slight redirection of the topic is go.]
I know someone else who can do something very similar to that. But she only picked up the talent recently.

Really? Recently?
[Heeeeeeeadtilt.]
Is she human?
Reply
She was born a human.
[That is an interesting question to come right out of the gate with, Lust. One more piece in the puzzle of you she is mentally assembling. Hopefully attempts to draw Lust out more will be as successful and the conversational redirect.]
Hopefully when she dies, she will still be human.
