The main problem with forking is that comments and locked entries don't quite work (which is why I didn't get a journal elsewhere and RSS the feed back). I think this can be gotten around using OpenID, but I haven't looked at it at all.

I realized after while that there would have to be a mod done to the code. The proper way for several aspects of LJ to work (friends' lists in particular) is RSS. I'm not sure how much of a big deal this is, or whether or not this could be leveraged to solve the problem with comments and such.
