Back to school with kids yesterday!  Where did the summer go!  It's still to warm and I'm so looking forward to fall and the cooler temperatures!  So done being hot!  This afternoon it was 80 degrees in my classroom.  Yuck!

School, already! Yikes! I am glad you and Rooster have kept plugging along. I think people are too quick to judge young dogs and not give them a chance to grow up and gain confidence. I've seen what people think of as "super star" youngsters flash out and not make good Open dogs or they don't last very long in Open. Are you in Sonia's trial and then Trailing? Good luck, I wish I could be there! Hopefully Beckit won't kill herself before I get the chance to meet her. Knucklehead border collies! LOL

We go back to school in August, but we’re out at the end of May. I love not going half way through June!!

I agree that people pass judgement to soon. Rooster is a weirdo in that he’s pretty loose eyed, but when he really needs eye, he has it. He also sits like a meerkat half the time😝🤣. It’s been kinda amusing and it’s been motivating. I entered Sonia’s, but haven’t heard either way. It’s confirmed we’re in Trailing the Sheep. I wish you were going to be there too! Are you going to Catbird?
That Beckit is something else! What a ding dong!

Yes, we got into Catbird and then I will enter Ron Green's trial at the end of October. Fingers crossed we get in that one as well.

Make sure you write about Catbird!! I’m interested to hear about what he comes up with! Any tips about Trailing the Sheep?

Wait what?! Beckit!! Who what where!! (She’s super cute BTW and I’m glad I wasn’t seeing things when I thought I saw a new dog - though I figured it was Meagan’s 😂😂😂😂).

Give that ole Beep dog a tortilla for me ❤️

Beckit is a by a half brother to Rooster named Walter, who I've liked for a long time. Nikki got her as a pup and I kinda half joking said she should come to me. Well, she turned out to be a bit soft for Nikki and wasn't doing well in a kennel situation, so viola! I ended up with her. I haven't made it official yet, but as long as she'll work sheep without eating them(she's very cow bred), she'll probably stay.

I will most defiantly give that Beep a tortilla!! :)

I'm not used to the herding world where opinions are just out there like that. Hmm....did people say this to you directly about Rooster? So glad he is proving people wrong! I see a lot of talk about "ruining" your first dog....like people never get to be a new handler. I've seen this said on To Novice and Beyond a few times. Maybe To Novice and Beyond 2 will be better. I have to unfollow it half the time.

Some people did say it directly after we had proved them wrong. Sometimes there's a bit of truth there, so if you can get through the "hey" part, there's some useful stuff in there. Rooster is a bit of a weirdo in that he'll go to the post, tail over his back, sniffing around instead of looking for sheep. He'll sit straight up like a meerkat rather than downing. He has some different type sheep dog traits:)~ In the end, I really don't care what other people's opinions are. I love him and he tries his heart out for me, that's all I can ask. Hopefully we can continue our upward trend ( ... )

He sounds like a character. Embrace the weirdness!

Good advice - to pick out the important tidbits. It is often hard to hear them thru the other "stuff." I think train incorrectly is a better way to put it. We all have to start somewhere and we only know what we know until we know more! And we all have a first dog. :-)
