I just realized today how completely out-of-date it is that most computer applications use an icon of a 3.5" floppy for the "save" button.  And I can remember using 5" floppies with our Commodore 64.  Actual floppies ( Read more... )

I feel my icon is remarkably appropriate ;)

I wouldn't worry too much about Noll. I know people who still revere him (and every year, someone posts an anniversary notice in the Gaurdian with the line 'Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered.'

Ya know....since you can remember when floppy disks were truly floppy, you officially qualify as an "old fart". Welcome. :-)

Not as old as some people I know. My dad learned to program computers with punch cards.

OMG. The computer class I took in college had punch cards. The darned computer took up a whole room, and there was a stack of cards 3 inches thick just to make a behemoth printer spew out the date, my name, and the name of the class. Now I do email, check the news, and update my blog using my smartphone. That's why I feel free to throw around the term "old fart" so freely. :-D

The trouble *I* had to get a decent cuppa in the US!!!
I had to convince them to use 'boiling' water for a start.

Which is why for many years I thought I didn't like tea. And then I went to Australia.
