Star Trek Movie

I just came home after a (free!) preview screening of the Star Trek movie. I really enjoyed it. There's a few plot points I have to ponder, but overall, the script writer seems carefully preserve continuity (which I'm really big on). There are a few issues, but they weren't  not enough to pull me out of the story. As a rule, I don't like the ( Read more... )

I hate you!

Not really. I'm going to the first show on Thursday. It's costing me $11 a ticket. So, how do you get invited to a preview of such a big movie?

At least I'm hated for a good reason!

A friend of mine got the tickets from someone in another one of his Star Trek groups and passed them out at my Star Trek group's meeting. I was more than happy to take him up on his kind offer.

I'm not a massive Trek fan, but I've heard positive things about this from several quarters (except for people who expect things to be just as they want them, and froth at the mouth otherwise) so hey, may give it a go. Or at least rent it.

If it makes you feel any better (possibly not) the average price in my area is 7-8 quid (and 15 if you go to Leicester Square in central London). Although the currency gap has closed considerably in recent months, as of last year and the year before that would have made it $12-15 per person.

'Tis the absolute crazy.

There certainly has been some lousy Trek in the past, but this movie definitely does not fit in that category. I'm sure we'll discuss some negatives when we get together, but not too many.

I read a book on economizing not too long ago, and I don't buy any of the things they were suggesting the reader cut back. Generally speaking, I don't eat out, buy coffee somewhere in the morning, go to or rent movies or buy books. I was disappointed that there was nothing useful between the book's covers.

I'm glad you liked the movie! :) I may try to go see it ... although not a lot of my friends/family here are scifi fans ... lol so may just wait to rent it.

I mastered the skill of going to the movies alone a long time ago. I figure if I wait around for someone to join me, I'll do lots of waiting and very little watching. I go to restaurants by myself too. (Not that I do either very often.)I've been single for a long time. :~)

OOOOOO! *is jealous*

I'm hoping to go see that with my folks on the weekend, but I'm scheduled to see it with Cel and Su in a couple of weeks so it's not a huge deal if we miss again. My folks are bad for doing that - promising me we'll go see it so I don't go to see it on my own ... then cancelling out at the last minute. Sigh... we only spend the money to see it at the cinema if it's a movie with lots of SFX and therefore *worth* paying the extra to see it on the big screen -- otherwise we just wait for it to show up on TMN instead :)

Glad you enjoyed it though! I was having some conceptual difficulties on how the heck they were going to explain having young version of all the characters showing up at the same time, seeing as they were different ages in TOS, but I'm happy to hear that issue is resolved satisfactorily!
