Star Trek Movie

I just came home after a (free!) preview screening of the Star Trek movie. I really enjoyed it. There's a few plot points I have to ponder, but overall, the script writer seems carefully preserve continuity (which I'm really big on). There are a few issues, but they weren't  not enough to pull me out of the story. As a rule, I don't like the prequel type movies that thrust the main characters together too early, especially in military circumstances (ie, having everybody together at Starfleet Academy even though it's preposterous to think they'd all be on the same ship years later). At first this annoyed me, but the writers resolved the issue pretty well.

I don't go to the movies very often, mostly because they're so loud it gives me a headache. I had earplugs with me today, though, so that solved the problem. The explosions and the accompaning music were very loud, even through the earplugs. I wish I didn't like the music so much because I don't think I'll be able to resist the siren call of the soundtrack. It's calling to me: "Buy the soundtrack, buy the soundtrack."

As a rule, I don't buy anything from the concessions stands because I go into sticker shock. It cost $4.50 for a bottle of water. No wonder they make all their money of food sales. Then again, it now costs $9.50 here to go to a movie. I was happy this one was free.

I was in good company for this one. Good friends and a good film made this an enjoyable way to spend the evening.
