Oh, this wasn’t good, this wasn’t good at all. Usually Silver was the one saving them, not the other way around and Kai wasn’t entirely sure what he was supposed to do with an unconscious GaoSilver, especially when technically speaking he wasn’t even injured, unless bruises from landing hard on the pavement counted.
The Org had come out of nowhere - as they usually seemed to - and Kai wasn’t fond of fighting Orgs on his own. Oh, he would and had, but that didn’t mean he had to like it and he’d been relieved when Silver had shown up; not that he’d needed the help, mind, because he was doing just fine, but he wouldn’t say no to a little extra help. He wasn’t used to fighting with Silver though, and there wasn’t the same kind of easy familiarity that he had with the others, despite the amount of time Silver had been fighting with them, so they hadn’t been covering each other as well as they should have been. Silver had gone down and gone down hard and then… then the Org took off, which was possibly the most confusing bit of the entire fiasco.
Kai sighed and dropped to his knees next to Silver, slapping his face none-too-gently. “Hey, Silver, come on,” he prodded. “We need to go after that Org, remember? We won’t get it if you’re just going to lie here.”
No reaction. He frowned and looked Silver over again, looking for any sign of injury that he’d missed before. Nope, still nothing. Maybe it had just been the force of the blast? It had been a pretty strong one and even Silver wasn’t invincible; maybe that blast had just been the last straw. Well, unfortunately, they couldn’t stay here and if Silver wasn’t going to wake up then Kai was just going to have to get him back to Gao’s Rock where Tetomu could help him instead. There were still a few things he could do first though.
“Na, Silver,” he tried again, shaking the man’s shoulder; at least if there were no injuries he wouldn’t be making anything worse. “Come on, get up.” Nothing. “I’ll tell Red you’ve confessed to being madly in love with him.”
…nothing. Damn. He’d thought he might get a reaction at that at least.
He bit his lip as one last possibility came to him, studying Silver carefully out the corner of his eye. It might work, he conceded, but the question was did he dare? This wasn’t Black who would let him get away with anything, this was Silver and he was much more reserved. He didn’t think Silver would let something like that get in the way of fighting the Orgs and it wasn’t as if they were particularly close anyway… Oh, what was he worrying about? If it worked, it worked and Silver couldn’t really complain and if it didn’t then he hadn’t lost anything.
Taking a deep breath and absolutely not bracing himself because that would be stupid, Kai leant forward and kissed Silver firmly. It was weird, kissing someone that unresponsive and he much preferred getting kissed back if he was going to put in that kind of effort. He was about to give up when Silver’s hand closed tightly around his wrist like a vise and he broke off with a startled yelp as Silver’s eyes snapped open. Okay, maybe it had worked after all. Good. Now he was going to thumped. Not good.
“What are you doing?” Silver asked, tone unreadable, expression just as bad.
“Um… waking you up?” Kai said hopefully. “Nothing else was working anyway,” he said defensively, and he scrambled back to his feet, tugging his wrist free of Silver’s grip, the other man letting go easily enough. “You’re welcome, by the way,” he continued, folding his arms across his chest.
“Nothing else worked?” Silver repeated sceptically, sitting up and resting his elbows on his knees, staring at him intently.
“No,” Kai replied sulkily. “It didn’t. I tried shaking you, slapping you, I even threatened to tell Red you’re in love with him and nothing--” he broke off with another yelp as Silver tackled him to the floor, pinning him there and glaring down at him.
“What did you tell Red?” Silver demanded and Kai had never thought he’d have to defend himself against Silver now that he wasn’t Loki anymore. Big mistake.
“Nothing!” he protested, keeping very still and projecting innocence as hard as he could. “And I wasn’t going to either, it was just a bluff.”
Silver huffed and Kai was expecting him to get up and off him but was left extremely puzzled when that didn’t happen, Silver staying exactly where he was and not budging so much as a millimetre. “Look, I’m sorry I kissed you, okay?” he tried, wriggling a little to try and get some leverage. “It crossed a line, I shouldn’t have done it, I’m sorry.”
“Hm, I don’t think you are.”
“Huh?” Kai blinked in surprise, jaw dropping slightly. Okay, that was not the reaction he’d been expecting. “Why would you think that?”
“Blue doesn’t apologise for anything,” Silver said calmly. “Even when he’s wrong and he knows it.”
“Yeah, exactly, so if I’m apologising that should mean something, right?”
“Not if you’re just trying to get yourself out of trouble.”
Kai sighed and let his head fall back against the paving stones. “Look, if you’re that pissed about it just hit me and get it over with.”
“Oh, I’m not going to hit you,” Silver replied, amusement warming his voice and freaking Kai out more than a little. “I’m sure I can think of something else though.”
“Yeah,” Kai said sourly, “I’ll bet. So if you’re not going to hit me can you at least get off me?”
For a moment he didn’t think Silver would but then came the faint sound of their teammates’ voices calling for them and Silver was standing before Kai could even take a breath.
“I will say this, though,” Silver said, waving at Yellow as he came around the corner. “You definitely have some unconventional resuscitation methods, Blue.”
“Thanks,” Kai replied flatly. “I feel so much better now.” And anyway, what kind of consolation was that when Silver was going to be plotting the best method of payback that he’d probably never even see coming?
