Original show rewatch

So I decided it was time to go back and watch some of the original series. I LOVED this show as a kid, and I have to say it's definitely a kids show where as the new show is definitely for grown ups. BSG 1980 was the first show I ever cried over, it was SO BAD and I just couldn't accept that starbuck and apollo never made it to earth, Starbuck and Casseopia never married. etc. I mention this just to point out how much I really cared about all this back when I was 11-13.

I have to say I still love starbuck and even with the added perspective I still think his hair is lovely.

I didn't rewatch their pilot as I've seen it quite a few times in recent years. So I started with Lost planet of the gods where they go to Kobol. I have to say that I much prefer Kobol as fake Egypt than a forest in Canada. The regular viper pilots all caught a deadly virus so the women who had been trained as shuttle pilots were called in to replace them. The 12 year old boy in me thought the women in their flight suits were incredibly hot (I'm not sure Jane Seymour has ever looked better) though the mid 30s feminist thought it was the most sexist thing they did on the show. Unfortuantely these were Jane Seymour's last episodes on the show, and she died the SLOWEST death from a cylon blaster riffle ever!

There were two episodes (the lost warrior and the magnificant warriors) I rewatched that I remembered even as a kid I thought were stupid. Both of which invovled settlers in a fake wild west setting. Silver lame cowboys? No thank you!!!

The Long Patrol though I did like! I liked Starbuck with his double dates. I'm starting to see why I preferred Casseopia as a kid. I know Starbuck is just a horrible 70s playboy sterotype. But I prefer to think of him simply as poly. And I like how Caseopia just kinda laughs about his antics instead of getting upset like Athena. I always thought it was sad that all the ambrosia blew up at the end. I'm kinda surprised they didn't find an outpost like this in the new show, it would have explained where all their booze came from!

Gun on ice planet zero was quite good too. Though I always thought the clones were quite funny looking. Having read the novelisation of this though was dissapointed by all the stuff that wasn't quite as good or detailed. But I do like ice planets, and there were some really excellent cylon moments. Particularly some spectacular lines from Lucifer.

It's a totally different show to the remake. But it's really nice to see the original women again. Boomer being terribly competant. Starbuck chasing women. Apollo young and Not Evil (after watching him as Zarek for so long it's kinda comforting to see him be nice again).

Though I definitely can't watch it in as big of chunks as the new show, 1 or 2 episodes in a row is about all I can handle!
