Original show rewatch

So I decided it was time to go back and watch some of the original series. I LOVED this show as a kid, and I have to say it's definitely a kids show where as the new show is definitely for grown ups. BSG 1980 was the first show I ever cried over, it was SO BAD and I just couldn't accept that starbuck and apollo never made it to earth, Starbuck and ( Read more... )

I remember the 'double' date thing really well and the 'cowboy' episode but I can't remember the ice planet. It may come to me. I might have to rewatch one day.

The double date was a classic! Turned out there were at least 2 cowboy episodes so far! The one with the "red eye" cylon who was working as the enforcer for the crazy sherif. And the one where they had a space casino inside their wild west bar and made starbuck sherif so he'd fight off the evil pig people harassing their town. (Also the same episode with Old Adama's hideous love interest!) The ice planet was very snowy and there were clones. For a 2 parter it was a little low on plot!

It's an interesting mix of nostalgia and horror going back and rewatching these. They are so very very dated in the 70s. But at the same time it's kinda fun. Though honestly there's probably better ways to spend my time. I just want to figure out what the hell was up with the light ships and the white uniforms. I remember that made NO sense as a kid!

Yeah, I think I remember both the cowboy eps. Wasn't there some kids in one who said a little rhyme or something? But I still can't remember the ice planet thing.

I think the kids must have been somewhere else as I don't remember that! Which means I probably have another planet of cowboys to look forward too. Nooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

Aw, original BSG, I caught that when it was repeated in the late 90s and was still young enough to really fall in love with it.

But what is this Battlestar 1980 you are talking about? Such a thing did not happen, that there was no Starbuck and Apollo and there were alien Scout troops and Adama with a beard.

Aw, I'm glad to hear they were still repeating it then!

Lols! I'd totally forgotten about the beard! Which clearly indicates it was in some mirror universe and not what actually happened to our heros!

Oh and can I add you as a friend? Your picspam of Gauis and Laura was one of the funniest things I've seen! (And I totally agree with the dr who article you posted!)

Ah, it must have been the most evil of evil universes, the sheer horror of it all.

Aw, sure friend away :).

It's currently sitting on my computer, but I'd be happy to burn you copies. I have to warn you though that it is VERY 70s!

All I can remember from the original is the clunky Cylons and....a giant spider?

There were insect people in the pilot, maybe that is what you're thinking of?

I have to admit I love the clunky cylons! And their voices!

I just finished The gun on iceplanet zero', so I decided to read this now, I know, a bit late, I can't seem to find the time lately. I have to agree with you, one or two eps at the time is kind of the max for this show. It is kind of dated, but I love the happy feel of it opposed to the dark gloomy new episodes which I love even more. The happy feeling is soo seventies and cheerful. At least they had a lot of fun while fighting the cylons.

hehe, well I'm sure you've had plenty to keep you busy lately! Yeah, you really can't just watch it more than that because there is just so much 70s! lols. It is so funny that there's such a happy feel, despite the fact that nearly as many people die. Part of me attempts to justify this with the fact that they've been at war with the cylons for a 1000 years so they just have gotten used to that way of life. But I think it's more likely that shows were just not as psychologically intense in the 70s!
