I blame the fact that I am not allowed to access LJ from work... that's my excuse :) - I'm home sick today (cursed plague), which gives me a chance to get online

Congrats on getting Real Life started. ;) I hope the in-laws are giving you a discount on rent, if you have to do some fixing up. You have to be careful when dealing with that stuff with family.
I heard a story on the radio where a family moved into a house that been owned by the family. The house turned out to be filled with mold and it was making the kids sick, the wife wanted to move and sell the place, but the husband's family wanted them to keep the house in the family, and the husband wasn't willing to move out. Extended family is great, but you've got to care for your own immediate family first.
Luckily they have been really reasonable... rent is cheap, and any money that we put into fixing up the place applies to rent. So that much is good - and universally, the whole family really thinks that this place is a bit of a pit. R is definitely either pro moving or building something else here, it's just a matter of time and finances. So, at least we aren't trapped here.
Any news is better than no news. I usually get updates from Shanasuer but have been too busy lately to even get a hold of her.
Here's to wishing you luck with that down-payment thingy. Pstyder and I are thinking about that for this coming summer if things workout at GMU and Walter Reed.
Sounds like you have an amazing job, I wish I was so lucky. I really want to travel.
Hey, just in case you didn't know, if either of you are ever in the area, there is a spare room here.
