my brother rented some alien movie called District 9 and chris decided he wanted to see it before it got sent back. I walked in about 20-ish minutes into it. the general setting is that a mother ship gets stalled over a city in south africa, and the government takes the aliens down and sets them up with some shacks to live in as a humanitarian ( Read more... )

also the fact that if I were to decide not to bring kids into the world, there's no immediate danger of the white american lower-middle-class crashing any time soon. we're spoiled enough over here that we can make decisions like that without thinking them through.

That's an interesting take on the film. I haven't seen it, nor do I really plan to. Do you think the director intentionally meant to stir up just what you thought up here?

it's really violent, and I could hardly stomach those parts, so I wouldn't give it a blanket recommendation.

as for your question, if I were to give that a hypothetical yes, it would open up a huge can of worms. it turns out the government was also running epperiments on the aliens in the movie. so would that also cross over into real life? it's possible. I wouldn't rule that out...

That's because most of the 'sympathy' people have for 'overpopulated' areas really just stems from rich people's natural disgust at and desire to eliminate poor people.
