(On classes: the way CS classes at Caltech worked was something like "In this class we'll be doing compilers/algorithms/neural networks/something. We'll be using language X. Go learn it. Your first homework is next week." Gods, but I miss college.)

Yeah, XKCD made me interested in Python. I'm also contemplating revisting Java (so I can make apps for my phone) and Perl (so I can be a cool bioinformatics person or something)

Python is sort of like Perl, except MORE READABLE, with more options overall, and not as short. Regular expressions are a module, and there's a bit more typing involved in using them, but they're basically still the same. And you can totally be a cool bioinformatics person in Python.
