SPN finale

May 13, 2010 22:06

No doubt some of you will disown me, but I'm generally satisfied and would have been happy with it as the series finale (with some adjustments obviously). It was... pretty much what I expected. With a couple of surprises good and bad, along the way. It would have been more satisfying if the season as a whole had been stronger, but yeah. ( Read more... )

I MOSTLY agree with you. I will be annoyed if they really stick to the Dean/Lisa thing because I think it came out of nowhere and was poorly characterized. I also think that trying to play happy family totally removes any of the S1 vibe they claim to be returning to.

Jared was excellent. Boy needs a haircut, though. Keep the length, just do some shaping. (Probably Sam had other things on his mind rather than staying pretty, though.)

They've opened the Dean/Lisa door, so now they've got to deal with it. I'll be terribly disappointed if they manage to work something out. Dean is NOT ready for a functional relationship. He wants to die right now. He's not in any place to step up as a partner and parent. If it's dysfunction free, I'll be pissed.

Not sure we know what they mean by S1 vibe though - are they referring to the structure, the emotional arc? It'll be interesting to see, one way or another.

Also, yes. Jared was awesome. :)

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that S1 vibe just meant...saving people, hunting things.

Yeah, Dean in a relationship? Right. Especially now that he thinks Sam is dead? Dean would be the worst SO ever.

I kind of feel bad for Lisa, no lie. She has no idea what she's gotten herself into.

I *hope* that's what they meant, but that ending... huh.

SFDSFASDASDS

I WANT CAS BACK! I WANT CAS IN SEASON 6. I DON'T WHAT HAPPY HET ENDING. I WAS MAKING MY SELF OKAY WITH POSSIBLE HUMAN/FALLEN CAS FOR SEASON 6. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FUCKING AWESOME.

ALSO THEY KILLED GABRIEL OFF FOR THIS?!?!!

BUT CHUCK BEING GOD IS FUCKING AWESOME.

I expected more deaths, tbh. I was pleasantly surprised that we got Bobby and Cas back. Their deaths were a genuine OH SHIT moment. Cas coming back was another one. AND CHUCK AS GOD. I HALF-EXPECTED SOMETHING LIKE THAT, SINCE HE'S KRIPKE'S AVATAR, BUT OMG.

Gabriel was too cool for the show. That's why they killed him off. He was making everyone else look bad... no? That's my theory.

I'm really annoyed with the happy cookie cutter "look happy het relationship with child because that's the only way anyone can be happy, right?" And I know that's going to be taken as "oh you hate women, you hate anything that gets in the way of the slash" but fuck it I'm allowed to be annoyed when "het relationships" are always the fucking happy ending norm. (which is why I'll always love Due South's ending.)

And are the nuts not having Misha? Considering what a huge fan base he has?

I wasn't this annoyed even had season 6 of goddamn Highlander.

Arugh, I was supposed to get writing done tonight. And now the whole scene has left me.

Dean/Lisa is so hilariously tacked on. Weakest part of the episode, if not the season, by far. That said, I'm interested in seeing how it plays out. If Dean and Lisa are miserable at the start of S6, I'll be much happier.

But no, I totally hear you. They did NOT have to shoehorn in the Dean/Lisa angle. An alternate possibility is Dean taking a sabbatical, and then moving in with Bobby for a while. That's MORE family centric than what we got, especially considering all the Bobby=daddy moments we got this year.

Is there actually a character named Azazel on the show? I only ask because my book has a major character called Azazel, and I've hence got Character Name Radar.

There is! He was the big bad of the first two seasons.

It's a great name.

I admit it, I wanted to give up the show after they killed Jo and Ellen (and notice how there were, like, NO WOMEN AT ALL for the second half of the season? SERIOUSLY) but I just couldn't make myself stop.

That said, this was as good as an ending as we could expect to get, I suppose. I even like the Lisa thing, sort of, because Dean wants that SO badly and he doesn't expect to have a normal life (or seem to think he deserves it). On the other hand, I feel really bad for Lisa and Ben because -- well, talk about fucked up.

The one thing I'm 'meh' about is Kripe = God... who broke up with fandom (Becky)? I don't know what to think about that one, predictable though it may be.

God = Chuck is funny, but presents a lot of problems. I'm ok with Kripke breaking up with us. Maybe nuGod!Gamble will treat us better. (Although, possibly not, considering some of her questionable choices).

The lack of women and PoC through most of the season kind of improved things. I was looking askance at oldfen who said the show did better when it didn't even try, but man were they right. So much less fail when they stick to white dudes. O.o

I feel bad for Lisa. Dean's never even had a *girlfriend*. His relationship with Cassie was less than a month long!

And now that I've had a night to sleep on it, I'm still generally satisfied but also annoyed they didn't answer how Dean did some of the stuff he did this season -- like killing an angel, for instance. Are we supposed to be deus ex machina, given Chuck, or what?

I don't think Chuck was God the entire way through. I think he was God only in the last little bit. The big tip off for me was how he was dressed. Most of the episode he was his usual scruffy self in a bathrobe. The end? He was in a clean, white shirt, all trim and nice looking ( ... )
