NATO question + big version of romance-novel cover

Aug 01, 2006 16:05

Okay, guys. Question time.

Does Klaus's NATO bear any resemblance at all to the real-world NATO?

Klaus is running around thwarting KGB agents and all that...whereas according to the research I did for my History essay on "The role of NATO in the Cold War," all NATO really did was exist. o_O Apparently the mere fact of its existence was a major ( Read more... )

Well, I posted this a few months back about NATO's involvement in the disarmament talks for the removal of ICBMs in Europe. The article specifically focuses on West Germany. Linky linky

Ah, very interesting! ^_^
But you see, that's exactly what I'm talking about. When I research NATO I get lots of information about politicking and treaties and international relations and such, and absolutely no information mentioning stuff like, say, dashing German majors retrieving secret information on weapons locations from Middle Eastern countries. :-/

Considering he was intelligence, A.K.A. a spy, I would think that sort of thing would be classified. Don't you?

Of course, but hasn't a little of the CIA and KGB stuff been declassified by now? (Okay that part I haven't researched so I could be wrong) Considering there is at least some information available about intelligence work that, say, the CIA did, wouldn't there also be a little information about NATO intelligence work?

yeah, he probably sees a lot more action that any one guy should. But I believe that we need to think of his job as also being German military. He is at the disposal of other North Atlantic Treaty countries, should they need assistance. So he would be given cases that would effect German/European safety.

Hmm. Good points. I wasn't thinking of what his job as simply a member of the German military might involve.

I think ara_chan made a pretty good summary of what NATO is there... Practically a bucn of Western cooperating in possible times of war. If country 1 of NATO is being attacked by, for example, Russia (ahaha), then the rest of the countries of NATO are obliged to help country 1 to kick the shit out of Russia.

You could always check wikipedia for more info. Or NATO's own site, http://www.nato.int

I found one thing very funny at the Q&A page of NATO's site:

Q: What is Russia’s status - is it a partner country?

A: Yes. NATO and Russia made a reciprocal commitment to work together to build a stable, secure and undivided continent on the basis of partnership and common interest in 1997.

*snickersnickersnirt* ... Imagine Klaus' face when that happened. XD

*snickersnickersnirt* ... Imagine Klaus' face when that happened. XD

Oh boy...I bet he loved that...XD

(Actually, I imagine it would be a lot like his interaction with Polar Bear in vol.6, where both of them are pretending really well to be all friendly, but once they're apart they revert to suspicious-and-plotting mode. I liked that interaction... XD)

Oh, yes. He was overjoyed to have work with Mischa in "Poseidon."

I can't help you with NATO, but thanks for the image of the book. I had some trouble reaching the image first though, there seem to be a " at the end of the URL and so it went to some warning of deleted image, but when I removed the " I could saw it. Neat, I've saved it. :)

I can't help with NATO either, but XD XD XD You are awesome. That is the classiest (trashiest?) notebook ever. I love that you added a spine. Nice job with your scanner-picture, too. I would like the other ones in this size too :3.

[blablabla]
Meanwhile at the ranch I've been anally retentive about fonts (your spine makes me feel better, maybe I'll stop it ^^;) and the one for the main title is a commercial one, but in happier news I have all but one of the others if you need any (I asked the romance novel guy what fonts he was using). (The other one I don't have is the subtitles, which was probably Java's standard font. It wasn't in the list.)
[/barbarbar]
Condensed version: I'm still doing it too. Thanks o:)o (I'll try not to be too much longer *whistles* ^^; .)
