Xenophobe's Guide to the Germans -- Ch.1, Nationalism and Identity

I just borrowed a highly entertaining book from the library called "Xenophobe's Guide to the Germans" and, out of the goodness of my heart, have decided to type up a chapter a night to share with everybody on here. It's extremely fun to see how perfectly Klaus fits some of the things said in it, and how completely different he is on other counts ( Read more... )

The emotions which Germans arouse in others oscillate between admiration and fear-they are said to be either “at your knees or at your throat”.

I've heard that before, but as "at your feet or at your throat". It's always made me think wonderfully naughty Eroica thoughts. ^-^ Alas, I think it would be in bad taste to use the phrase in a fic....

...you may think it's in bad taste. I, however, have no such compunctions. >:D

*G* Well, I actually meant it would be in bad taste in a bigoted sense. I mean, if I put it in a story, even though it would be sexually amusing it could also seem to be insulting to Germans. I'm a rabid patriot, sure, but why be rude about it? ;-)

Still, I think it definitely applies to Klaus at least as far as Dorian is concerned. *EG*
