Wankery and a Rec...

Dec 05, 2007 11:13

I try to be a nice person. (I'm not fishing for confirmation one way or the other here. I'm aware that like most people I can sometimes be nice and sometimes be a bitch, but just go with me on this one, okay?) I really try to be a nice person, but damned if this sshg_exchange hasn't caused me to pull my hair out recently. How ginny_weasley31 and shiv5468 have done it year after ( Read more... )

I'm with you on that score. I won't even look back.

Exchange is much with the crazy making this year. Why do people have to be asshats, hmm?

Also, LJ is Wank Central these days. It seems that if you don't set your default filtering to include Adult Content, all of your friends who set their journals as Adult will simply not appear on your friend's list. Because LJ defines "Searching" as the process they use to assemble your flist. Lovely.

And yeah, good point about censoring Russian LJ'ers... Really good point.

ETA: Thanks for the rec!

I don't know. I think it's the holidays, really. Everybody is so stressed out this time of year, and if you add in the pressures of the exchange, things are just amplified.

I saw that about the default setting and changed mine. But you know there are people who didn't see it and who are missing entries because of it.

From what I understand, LJ is synonymous in Russia with blogging, and I'm uneasy with anything that might impede that.

I'm not sure I've understood this. What does happen if I set it to "no adult concepts"?

People on your friends list who have rated their blogs as "Contains Adult Concepts" will no longer appear on your friends list, even if you have them friended.

It isn't just filtering searches, as in "I go to the Search field and enter criteria for blogs I want to read". LJ considers the process that builds your friends list a search, and thus, will omit anyone who is rated "Adult Concepts".

I'd like to help with the Exchange. I'm not very sure about my abilities...but ask me whatever you want and I'll try.

Thanks for the rec, the photos are gorgeous.

And quite right about LJ.

Hey, whatever you'd be willing to do would be helpful. Pinch hitting, beta reading, adminning, or just general moral support. ;) We'd be appreciative for any of it.

You're welcome for the rec. I was just astounded at how beautiful they are.

All right, I'll stick my neck out a second time and pinch-hit if you need me. I can beta for narrative structure but not for the finer points of grammar and ponctuation. I'm willing to admin, but I've never done it before so you'll need to tell me exactly what you want me to do. As for moral support, that's already acquired!

Whoo hoo! Okay, I'll put you down on the list. ;)

Adminning is basically looking for plot holes, doubled words, misspelled canon words, etc. Per Shiv, we don't touch the commas. ;)

The moral support is very much appreciated, thank you.

~snicker~ Yeah, you have. But after dealing with the behind-the-scenes a little more in-depth, I can see where you might question it at times. ;)
