Wankery and a Rec...

I try to be a nice person. (I'm not fishing for confirmation one way or the other here. I'm aware that like most people I can sometimes be nice and sometimes be a bitch, but just go with me on this one, okay?) I really try to be a nice person, but damned if this sshg_exchange hasn't caused me to pull my hair out recently. How ginny_weasley31 and shiv5468 have done it year after ( Read more... )

Exchange is much with the crazy making this year. Why do people have to be asshats, hmm?

Also, LJ is Wank Central these days. It seems that if you don't set your default filtering to include Adult Content, all of your friends who set their journals as Adult will simply not appear on your friend's list. Because LJ defines "Searching" as the process they use to assemble your flist. Lovely.

And yeah, good point about censoring Russian LJ'ers... Really good point.

ETA: Thanks for the rec!

I don't know. I think it's the holidays, really. Everybody is so stressed out this time of year, and if you add in the pressures of the exchange, things are just amplified.

I saw that about the default setting and changed mine. But you know there are people who didn't see it and who are missing entries because of it.

From what I understand, LJ is synonymous in Russia with blogging, and I'm uneasy with anything that might impede that.

I'm not sure I've understood this. What does happen if I set it to "no adult concepts"?

People on your friends list who have rated their blogs as "Contains Adult Concepts" will no longer appear on your friends list, even if you have them friended.

It isn't just filtering searches, as in "I go to the Search field and enter criteria for blogs I want to read". LJ considers the process that builds your friends list a search, and thus, will omit anyone who is rated "Adult Concepts".

Thanks a lot for explaining. I see that I overlooked that you were talking about filtering. I set my filter on "Do not filter my results", and so far I haven't missed any of my friends. It seems to not filter my f-list, indeed.

What?

where should I set this new filter? I'm not here often, but I want to be able to read my flist correctly, all of my flist!

Go here and scroll down to set the new Viewing Options, under Adult Content Options.

In order to see the entirety of your flist, be sure to set your Safe Search Filtering to "Do Not Filter Results".

I cannot change this "Viewing Adult Content :Collapse adult-oriented material written by other users"... I just cannot, I see the other choices, but I cannot change to what I want.
Weird!!!

Do ou have your date of birth entered in your profile. If you don't, it won't let you as you might be six.

You don't have to display it to the world, but you do need to tell LJ

I was sure I did it, but no. So, thank you, Shiv.
I was able to change to "normal" LJ.

Are you on a paid account? Because that might be the problem.

I am. But Shiv just reminded me I needed to enter my date of birth (I forgot the year, I was so sure, it was already done).

Thank you for your help.
