Aidan finishes his sandwich, leaves the plate in the sink, and picks up the phone. He quickly dials a number; after a moment or two, he begins, "Hi, Mrs. Yamada. This is Aidan Ryan; is Aki there?"

Aidan shuts the copy of An Introduction to the Prodigal Races and looks over at the now-empty side of the room. I keep expecting to see Mikal walk in the door...I hope he's doing okay.
