Thanks for the tips. :) I don't have time to download Firefox right now. Also, I belong to certain consumer research websites (that actually pay me for my opinions) that work ONLY with Internet Explorer and no other browsers. Stupidly arbitarary of them, I know, but that's how they are. I've heard very good things about Firefox, and may try it some time, but not now.
As for spyware, I have the 2006 version of PC Cillin on my laptop, and it scans every single day for spyware, adware, malware, data miners, viruses, worms, etc. Plus it automatically updates via the internet every day as well. A friend of mine, who helped me set up my laptop, my wireless router, and all that stuff, highly recommended PC Cillin for protection against all these things. And I trust him implicitly, because he runs his own business that is just like the Geek Squad, only he's independent. He is a WIZ!! Plus he's a longtime friend and always looks out for my best interests. :)
Check to see if there's another copy of IE running. Without starting IE, open your task manager and look for IEXPLORE.EXE. Highlight it and then press the "End Process" button.
Once I saw at my work a false IE running in the task manager, only one character was different and then it looked and saw it was NOT IE, it was a hacker program with FTP server and a word I dare not to type here, it was a bad word. We format that drive.
I checked the Task Manager to see if there was another IE running, as you and rodluvan both mentioned. Fortunately, at least there was no problem there. :)
Did you restart the computer after you got the ERROR in IE? then maybe XP restore in the system. There is such a function in XP
You can try this. 1. Empty your Cache in your browser. I mean that you take away al the Temporary internet file in IE. Once I did thi on a computer at work and got IE working again. 2. Run the newest update antivirus 3. Run AdAware that can take away spyware. You have to run a new update to that program too from the net.
I can't promise it works but you can try it. It's difficult to know what the problem is.
Send the computer to me so I can look ...joking :-) I this had happened at April 1 I should not have believed you ;)
Thank you for all of your ideas. You are very patient and kind. :)
I forgot about emptying the web browser cache, so I did it. I deleted all temporary internet files, and there were a LOT of them! :( Maybe one or more of them had become "corrupt". I even deleted all of my cookies. I know that now I will have to sign-in again on all the sites I use that have stored cookies in my browser, but that's OK. The main thing is stopping my browser from shutting down!
As for scanning for viruses, adware, spyware, etc., I already did that. :) I didn't use AdAware because I already have a program that does that: PC-Cillin. It does everything AdAware can do, plus MORE. It was a somewhat expensive piece of software to buy, but I'm very pleased at how comprehensive its protection is. Plus it goes on the Internet every day and updates itself. The only problem is that I forgot to have it actually SCAN for viruses/adware/spyware every day! It only scanned every few days, but I have changed that now!! :)
Yes, I think my IE is okay now. I'm almost afraid to say it, because I don't want another problem to start! ;)
I'm going to write an update in my journal right now, with an explanation of what I think went wrong, and how I solved it.
Thanks again for your help! You're always so thoughtful and friendly. *hugs* I understood everything that you were talking about with the IE advice, so don't worry about that. You might think it's hard, sometimes, to write in English, but I never think it's hard to understand you. :)

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see any screen shot.

Is your IE working again after you took away the temporary internet files?
Of course I am curious to know it.
Sorry I don't understand if you told this her or not. Sometimes I can have problems with the English
