Sockdolager!! LOL

I was just curious if anyone has ever heard the word sockdolager? I was just now looking up the word "sociology" in the dictionary, because I wasn't 100% clear on its complex definition, and was trying to decide if that was the correct category for this rather provocative question on Yahoo Answers -- feel free to click the link and answer the ( Read more... )

Oooh, it sounds like it's related the term "sock" - as in "He socked him hard in the gut."

Haha, at first when I saw the word I thought it said "sockdowager" which made me exclaim, "Is that the real word for a sock missing its mate?!?!"

LOL LOL!! I like how your creative mind thinks! A "sockdowager" could very well be one of those sad, mysterious socks who have lost their mates. ;D

BTW, did you see in alexanderfans that Alec will have a gig July 25 in Palo Alto at the Uni Church? I'm so happy he's coming back! I loved the fall show and was sad to miss the Yule show (where you so awesomely got me those autographed CDs!) If you can make it July 25, want to meet up for dinner beforehand? It'd be cool if Phil can come too. Heck, I might try to round up some friends as well -- the more, the merrier! :)

Yep, I saw that! We should totally meet up! Phillip should be coming, and another friend of ours as well. I'll ask them about dinner and we'll see what they say.

Have you ever been to any of the Holder's Country Inns/Country Inn Cafes? They're diners and the quality of their food is fantastic! :D I remember you told me you like places like Carrows and Dennys, and Holder's is like that but with egg dishes to diiiiiieeeeee for. Also, a couple of them feature splendid desserts (cheesecakes and napoleons and the like; one of the owners makes desserts as a hobby.)

Yay for meeting up for dinner and friends before the Alexander Adams concert! :D And yes, I know Holder's Country Inns. I've been to them a few times, and I always enjoyed them. I'd go more often, except there aren't any in the South Sannazay area. :( So yes -- it would be great to eat dinner there! I'm assuming there's one near you in Sunnyvale, right? :)

heheh And I have a degree in journalism with a minor (almost double-major) in English, and I didn't know the word either! *giggle* BTW, thank you for posting a reply to my question on Yahoo Answers. Would you believe I read thru the whole reply before I realized it was you? ;) I really enjoyed how you told the story of your sons' births. They're lucky to have such a loving mom, that's for sure!!

Thank you, I'm just glad to learn that I had something to give this little people. I was terrified that I'd still be my ego-centric self annoyed by every cry and coo. So not the case.

That's a new word for me, too! It's pretty funny sounding.

As a fellow "media professional", I now challenge you to use sockdolager in a sentence! ;D :)

You're on! ;)

Shari ended the debate on whether rats make good pets with a sockdolager that could not be refuted!

LOL I have never heard of that word before, and I too thought it was a hanger for socks so they could dangle...

Anyways, I am craving blue berry pancakes from Holders! I really hate you1 :P *wink* No such things like breakfast joints here in Germany.
