This has nothing to do with anything (*giggle*), but....

Why does almost everyone find it so shocking, amusing, or just plain odd when they learn that I've fired a double-barreled shotgun when I tried skeet shooting years ago? (Or trap shooting; I never remember the difference ( Read more... )

LOL! I had the same reaction last night when my roommate Margaret told us she was good at shooting clay pigeons. She's a skinny woman like you and I don't know why I found that shocking - I think it's just hard for people to picture petite ladies like us doing "manly" activities like that, even though we are capable of doing them well! :D

Way to go! I'd imagine that I'd have a difficult time hitting even 1 clay pigeon thanks to my lack of depth perception.

Thanks! :) But why do you lack depth perception? Do you have low vision in one of your yes? I have a friend who's been blind in one eye since birth, so she never knew what depth perception was, and hence does not drive. :( However, I know a few other folks who lost the vision in one eye as ADULTS, so somehow they're still able to figure out/compensate for depth perception and hence can still drive. :) Not that driving a car and tracking/shooting skeets is the same thing. *chuckle*

The muscles in my left eye are imbalanced, so it takes a lot of effort for me to look through it. Consequently I see primarily out of my right eye only. I'm able to drive, and I'm pretty sure I compensate for my lack of depth perception by observing vertical heights.

I like to play golf too, and of course it's exceedingly difficult for me to judge the distance to the green.

I've never tried skeet shooting, but I'd like to some day. I have done target shooting and have shot just about everything my husband and his dad own. I enjoy target shooting and I am quite good at it. It shocked everyone the first time we went that I was a good shot, and it shocks people now to learn I shoot. I wonder why?

Right on for being a good shot! :D What guns did you use? I too have done a bit of target shooting, albeit years before I ever tried skeet. My dad used to be into target shooting, so I tried it with both his 22-caliber and his 357 magnum! I didn't do great, but I did much better than I thought I would as a newbie! *blush* He doesn't shoot or have any guns anymore -- hasn't for years.

I really thought I would hate target shooting. But my husband and father in law collect guns and build and restore guns, and they wanted to at least teach me how to use one. They wanted to share their passion. They took me out and I shot a 22, 25, 762, 9mm, CZ52, 308. I am a god shot, but I really do prefer smaller calibers as I can control them better. I have shot a few rifles, but I prefer handguns. My father in law has bought me a couple handguns that are kept in our collection (locked well away from our kids, who have been taught gun safety!)I do not have a license to carry a weapon and I don't think I ever will get one. I like to target shoot, but I see no reason to carry a gun on me at all times.

I think it's cool. I have a friend who is in a gun/shooting club and people are always so surprised to find out.

Pretty cool! I was in the Navy and couldn't shoot that well. 3:5? Annie Oakley, you are! Impressive.

*blush* Thank you for the compliment, which is especially humbling since you were in the Navy! :) Actually I don't think I knew you were; when/where did you serve, and for how long? Speaking of learning new things about people -- one of my ex-boyfriends was a Navy SEAL! Interesting lot, those guys. *chuckle*

I got out in 2004. I served sea duty in UAE, Africa, and basically the Persian Gulf..I had shore duty in San Diego which I loved. I loved all of it actually. It was adventurous.
