Good thoughts request for my Dad

Mar 12, 2008 20:53

Hi! Just a humble request for anyone who feels comfortable thinking good thoughts/sending good energies to my dad, Al. It doesn't matter if you're religious, spiritual, or nothing -- to me, the main benefit of thinking/praying for someone is that if the person KNOWS people are doing this, it's EMPOWERING, and that in turn can boost his/her mood and ( Read more... )

Thank you! :) I may not comment all that much in your journal, but I do read it, and I do still think about you and MVA. (She makes me feel old -- I remember when she was a giddy little girl who got mistaken for my daughter back in the days when "the gang" went dancing at The Rio Grande! heh Now she is a beautiful young woman.) Anyway, thank you for the good thoughts for my dad! *hugs* I definitely appreciate it, and I know he will also.

BTW, that's a gorgeous dew-kissed rose in your icon! Where did you get it?

Pneumonia is what (partly) took down my paternal grandfather two years ago. Nasty stuff if it goes untreated.

Good thoughts for your dad - that can't be very comfortable for him, poor guy! On the steam-inhaling thing: would it be possible for him to cut up some pieces of ginger root and add that to the water? (Assuming it's doctor-approved, that is - check first!) I'm told that inhaling ginger-spiked steam can do wonders for colds (though I've not yet tried this myself).

Anyways, I know only too well the misery of allergy flares (if that's what your dad has), so many good thoughts and well-wishes for him!

I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa. :( I hope he was at least at a ripe old age when he passed away.

Thank you for the thoughts for my dad! :) And thank you for the idea of adding ginger root to the water when he does the steam inhalation. I never heard of that before. I am, however, familiar with adding a few drops of essential oil of eucalyptus or peppermint to the water, because they both are expectorants and also have something of an anti-microbial property, but I never heard of ginger being used for steaming. Sounds good, though! I'm always interested in learning about herbal remedies.

The last time my dad had something like this, we both discovered that the peppermint oil makes for too strong of a smell for steaming, even extremely diluted and somewhat far from his face. (I also disliked it). However, he tolerated the eucalyptus, and I didn't mind it either. The Eucalyptus globulus species, or Blue Gum Euc, is especially good for helping people expectorate. :) So now we've traded herbal remedy info!

He was - I think he was 86 or 87 when he went, which is about average for my family on both sides. The reason he declined so fast is because 1) he had a stroke about March of '05 that left him permanently in a wheelchair, and 2) he'd had pneumonia about 5 or 6 times in his life, each time successively worse, because he was the kind that WILL NOT go to a doctor even when he's bleeding out the eyeballs (which I can't exactly blame him for, being that I'm the same way; I didn't get my first gyno exam (HATE HATE HATE HATE) till last year and I'm 31 - I would prefer NEVER to do that again, thankyouverymuch ( ... )

Yep, Southern California *is* pretty wild compared to the Northern half, which consists mostly of computer geeks and wine-growers! ;D Well, okay, so it's not actually THAT stereotypical or homogenous, but it sounded funny. heehee Anyway, on a more serious note, thank you so much for the well wishes for my dad! I really appreciate it! :)

Thank you!! That is very sweet and thoughtful! :) It makes me happy that folks are thinking/sending "goodness" for my dad, even if they don't know him! I will be sure to share this with him!

I hope your dad gets well soon!

Ugh, it's totally allergy-nightmare-time right now. Despite daily dosing with Claritin, my sinuses have been itchy the last few days. It's utterly infuriating.

I love your icon! I think I may have seen you use it once before, but I don't remember if I've commented. If I haven't before, I would like to say now that I think it's both beautiful and has a thoughtful statement. :)

Thanks! :) He seems a wee bit better today compared with yesterday.

So you take Claritin too, eh? I like that antihistimine because it doesn't cause drowsiness, plus it actually WORKS when I have one of my rare allergy flares. I first tried it when there was no generic loratidine; you could only get it via a Claritin prescription. One of my friends had some and was totally disappointed with it because it did NOTHING for her. She was going to toss it,so I said I'd try it because at the time I needed something anyway. And that's when I learned how much I love it! :D Funny how the same drug works great on one person but not at all on another.

I love the rain/rainbow icon as well! I can say "thank you" for your compliment because I didn't make it, and shamefully I don't even know who DID! I simply saw it in the icon collection of my good friend beckerbuns and loved it at first sight! I really identify with the optimistic sentiment of it. :) I'm very happy Becky didn't mind letting me copy it for my own collection.
