Left Thursday afternoon to head south for a weekend in Portland. davidlevine and kateyule met me at the train station and we were off to dinner and the theater. It was my first fairly uncommitted weekend in a while, and for once I felt like I was able to relax and rejuvenate a little bit. That's not to say that previous weekends weren't good--they were; they were just very busy, with little time for me to unwind.

When I heard the news about Les Miserables being adapted for the screen, I was on the fence about it until I heard that Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe had been cast as Valjean and Javert respectively--and then I couldn't wait. In a stroke of luck and kind friendship, I found myself treated to dinner and the theater tonight by bjcooper and her partner TC. We had a light but delicious dinner at Sazerac, to which I really want to return to sample more of their excellent (and remarkably affordable for downtown) menu. 1) Just saw the extraordinary Danny Boyle's Frankenstein at SIFF with EB and was completely blown away. If you have any chance to see this filmed version of the National Theater's production, do not pass GO, do not collect $200--go directly to see it. It's astonishing and you'll never think of Frankenstein the same way again.
