Adventures in Closet Excavation

Mar 22, 2011 17:01

Today, after the bulk of work for the Day job was done, with an hour to spare, I did a little closet excavation just to be sure that I didn't have anything else I might wear to the gala. Here's what I found:

Dana Scully Suit: I talked about this dress in yesterday's post. I tried it on again just now and discovered that I was really wrong about it ( Read more... )

I understand about the Dana Scully Suit: the last time I saw my GP she looked me over as I was preparing to leave and said "Bruce, you either have to buy new pants or hire someone to wear those with you." Good luck with the Spring Dress!

So, will you be clothing shopping any time soon? I bet you'd look sharp in clothes sized to fit better. :-)

Accessories are wonderful things!

Sometimes I'll have made up my mind to wear a particular outfit to an event, then put it on and go--"nope, no way."

I do try to keep some variant of the Little Black Dress handy, just in case. I rarely have to resort to it, but it's there if I need it.

I still don't have an LBD. The time is coming, but I want to drop a little more weight before I make the commitment. Part of it is that I rarely have an event that requires such an item. Part of it is that, until fairly recently, LBDs for big girls were a rare thing indeed. That's changing (as evidenced by my experience at Dress Barn Woman this past weekend), but I still haven't found one that feels like it really works for me. The Time, however, Will Come. :-)

Mine are not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. ;-)

I tend to get mine from sports designers...simple black pullover dress in a cotton fabric. Though my long-sleeved one from Title Nine has a shimmery fabric. You're right about the choice for big girls; and the stuff for big girls is not always proportioned correctly for shorter women like you and me.

I've always been lucky, though, in that I have access to a nice resale shop (which gets a lot of consignments from some of the more affluent parts of town). Next time you're down in PDX, if you have the time for a quick expedition, I'll introduce you to it. They carry a lot of size variety including some very nice stuff in larger sizes, as well as some designer seconds and overstock. They'll also mark stuff down pretty quickly to keep inventory moving. I've gotten some insane deals there.

How fun that you found some things you haven't looked at in ages and made a plan for them!

I know you will look lovely. So, boa or no boa?

Boa! Totally boa! I'll write about the event later, but suffice it to say that I wasn't the only one wearing a boa, and that it was exactly the right choice.
