I wouldn't bet on it: Quartermaster was thick with 'em when I was growing up and I have a profound respect as to how far away they can spot someone walking around. If you're within 3 feet of the blowhole it will know and spurt at you: that's why old-time harvesters that didn't use SCUBA used to set up four feet away, dig down like hell, and then cut over so the geoduck would retreat onto the shovel.
