Post-Memorial Day Weekend notes

It's June. Damn, but this year is flying by.

Spent the weekend on the Oregon coast with jackwilliambell, visiting his folks and poking around Newport. We went to a community garage sale, visited the Yaquina Bay lighthouse, saw Iron Man 2 (is anyone in Hollywood hotter than Robert Downey, Jr.? I think not), and just relaxed. The highlight of the weekend was our ( Read more... )

Not to contribute to your discontent, but the pipe beating video was apparently taken after the commandos had stormed the ship and attacked the passengers. That was unarmed people defending themselves from surprise military attack, not a tit-for-tat face-off like a street riot.

I don't see this situation as trivial. I also don't think it was your intention to suggest that I'm so simple as it think it was. Look, Israel's response was appalling; I'm not arguing that. (I didn't want to argue at all, frankly.) Gaza is clearly in need of humanitarian support. At the same time, the intention to create an international incident was clear and present. I hate it that Israel took the bait; unfortunately, it can't see its way past its policies anymore. The reelection of Netanyahu was a disaster for the country, and things are only going to get worse.

Didn't mean to imply I thought you simple. My apologies. But the Israeli government appears to be circulating that video as justification for the attack, which strikes me as deeply disingenuous at best. Compounding a major, obvious and heartbreaking error of policy with a slightly more subtle yet stupid error of PR, in effect.

Well, at SIFF yesterday the answer would have been Alexander Siddiq, but he's not exactly Hollywood.

(apologies for posting twice. Stupid brain.)

Yep, I saw your post about that and had to smile. I'm looking forward to seeing the film. Sounds wonderful.
