If Google does turn over its records to Viacom as a result of a New York judge's order, it occurs to me that what Viacom will discover about me is that I watch none of its TV shows online or off. If they dig into my profile, they'll find me watching Doctor Who fan vids, Star Trek fan vids, the occasional Keith Olbermann special comment and silly ( Read more... )

Resumes always create anxiety, even if you're comfortably employed. It's the nature of the beast. But having it refreshed and polished will make you feel better, and it will be useful it beating back that other anxiety when it gets you the next job with a minimum of fuss/stress... (because we SAY it will, damn it. So there. Universe, you are on notice.)

Oh, I know that anxiety is a natural part of this process. But ever since my hellacious 4.5 months at Cingular and the following 8 months of recovery time, the manifestation of anxiety around this process has become full-blown anxiety attacks every time I work on revising the resume or look at job listings for any significant period of time: tears, hyperventilating, the works. Just talking about it with e_bourne yesterday provoked tears. This is Not Good in all the ways such things are Not Good. That's why pushing through all this is so hard for me. It's the one place where my resolve gets substantially shaken every single time. I hate it.

I gotta say: Seattle's been a great experience for me in many ways, but it's been extremely hard on me in terms of my employment experience. If there was one thing I could change about the last 14 years, it would be that.

Here's hoping the new job situation, whatever it may be, does come with a minimum of fuss/stress, just as my current one did. That would go a long way to putting this reaction to bed. I ( ... )

"Much good may the data do them."

What they'll find in your data isn't the point at all - it's that they could get it in the first place.

I understand the principle of the thing. (I knew I'd be misunderstood.) My point is that since there's nothing I can do but protest their getting the data -- we need the president, the Congress and/or the Supreme Court to actually do something to keep that from happening and somehow I don't think they will -- I might as well point out to the whole world what useless information it is they'll be getting. I am heartily sick of this administration and its toadies.

Good on you for getting your resume done. I have huge resume angst, which explains why I've done nothing with mine in eons. It's one of those things on the to-do list for December.

Thank you so much for that io9 link. I thought I was the only person in the universe who doesn't think Moffat is All That. I don't agree with everything she says, but I agree with most of it. (Especially the stuff about Forest of the Dead, UGH, and The Woman in the Fireplace -- I've never understood the love for that episode.)
